NSW Govt calls it responsible gambling awareness, but we know that we have a significant number of people at Fairfield who are gambling at levels of harm to them and to their families. The training was to deliver this evidence based program to parents of children 2-12 in BOTH English and Arabic! Its been wonderful to work with Parentshop and SPARK to develop the Arabic package so the program can be delivered in full without need for an interpreter. Thanks to all who participated! People seeking protection and in Australia on bridging visas have to pay $100-plus a day for childcare, which stops them from seeking employment, attending English classes or even accessing counselling and other support they need. Really hope to see other councils do the same!
