25.01.2022 As part of the Bunbury Mental Health Week celebrations, Community First staff and clients took part in the Walk for Mental Health at the Big Swamp on Friday 13th October. Any form of exercise is great for your overall health and wellbeing, and walking is an easy way to get active and as a bonus, enjoy the wonderful scenery Bunbury has to offer. The day was lovely and sunny and even attracted Winston the Cow Winston is from Headspace here in Bunbury and you can usually see him at Mental Health events. Winston is named after Winston Churchill and will be auctioned towards the end of the year with proceeds going to Black Dog Ride. Pictured here is Mason with Winston the cow.

25.01.2022 #WellnessWednesday Challenge: Practice radical self-acceptance of what is, and excited anticipation for what's coming. In doing so you release yourself from tra...p of "never good enough," which at its root, is about earning your own love and acceptance. Owning our story of "now" and accepting that at this moment we are whole and enough is the bravest thing we can do. As Carl Rogers said, "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. " - Get Project Happiness in your inbox! Sign up today for free http://bit.ly/1U4wTqx

20.01.2022 Chorus previously Community First recently took part in a Mental Health Expo at Newton Moore Senior High School, with other local mental health support services. Providing information and strategies to young people is so important for their current and future mental and emotional well-being. If people access supports and practice daily habits that support positive mental health from a young age, it will better equip people to stay well into their adult years.

16.01.2022 When is the last time you did absolutely nothing for 10 whole minutes? Not texting, talking or even thinking? Mindfulness expert Andy Puddicombe describes the transformative power of doing just that: Refreshing your mind for 10 minutes a day, simply by being mindful and experiencing the present moment. (No need for incense or sitting in uncomfortable positions.)

11.01.2022 Last week we celebrated Mental Health Week with the annual multi agency Social Night, the theme was 'Life is a Stage,' and we were asked to dress up as our favourite movie character. Here are some of the staff from the Bunbury office, can you guess who their favourite movie characters are? The aim of Mental Health Week is to promote social and emotional wellbeing to the community, encouraging people to maximise their health potential, enhancing the coping capacity of communities, families, individuals and increasing mental health recovery.

08.01.2022 To all appearances, Eleanor Longden was just like every other student, heading to college full of promise and without a care in the world. That was until the voices in her head started talking. Initially innocuous, these internal narrators became increasingly antagonistic and dictatorial, turning her life into a living nightmare. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, hospitalized, drugged, Longden was discarded by a system that didn't know how to help her. Longden tells the moving tale of her years-long journey back to mental health, and makes the case that it was through learning to listen to her voices that she was able to survive.
