14.01.2022 Australia’s most important piece of legislation protecting our environment, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, is under review. There is a lack of experts in conservation, biodiversity, or endangered flora and fauna panel conducting the review and advising the minister.
11.01.2022 Update of the progress of the smut Kordyana brasiliensis: Due to COVID-19 there has been some interruption to the release and availability of the smut because CSIRO staff were prohibited from travelling interstate from Canberra. Meanwhile, it has been found that smut has been slow to establish itself here, as has also been the case in NSW and New Zealand. There is promise however - CSIRO have lately been able to provide infected material which has been used to set up nurse...ry sites that will, in time, enable the material to be provided to community members. Infection sites set up in June last year are now starting to establish themselves. Material may become available from these sites sometime soon. There is the need to maintain a balance between the infection spreading successfully and harvesting infected material for use elsewhere. If people interested in obtaining material let us know at CWAD, we will set up a list of interested customers and send out material as it becomes available. email: [email protected] See more
10.01.2022 Let’s call it Sambar Deer social distancing. Back in to the stunning Sherbrooke Forest assisting the Sherbrooke Lyrebird Survey Group. It’s a shame to have to i...ntervene in this way, but it would be even more of a shame to loose iconic and precious forest species on our watch. Wire mesh tree guards to protect Southern Sassafras from ring barking by Sambar Deer. Exclusion fencing around one of the only known patches of Silky Fan fern left in Sherbrooke to mitigate browsing and trampling. A privilege to work on this project. See more
