11.01.2022 Jane Conway is currently running Mental Health First Aid courses in the NSW Northern Rivers and beyond (accredited instructor with Mental Health First Aid Australia). Mental health first aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem or who is in a mental health crisis (e.g.: the person is suicidal or has a traumatic experience). Like physical first aid, mental health first aid is given until the person receives professional help or until the c...risis resolves. 10.01.2022 Sometimes people wonder what a Mental Health First Aid course has got to do with them. 1 in 5 Australians aged between 16-85 suffer from some form of common mental illness in any year and the lifetime risk of developing a mental disorder is nearly 50%. I reckon the course is relevant for all of us. Almost the whole population will at some time have direct experience of such an issue, either in themselves or in someone close. It is part of the fabric of our community. ... Anything that helps break down stigma through understanding and engagement within the community and within ourselves is worth doing.
