22.01.2022 Travel should be all about local experiences and what an experience my husband had with @foziesfishing . . . I bought @timothy.hulme a local fishing charter for Christmas and Fozie didn’t let us down! A full morning out to sea with many a catch and lots of fun . ... . . . An early rise also saw me have a whole morning to myself to mooch round #ballina . . . #visitaustralia #travelaustralia #tourismaustralia #exploreaustralia #australiaadventures #australianadventure #australianadventures #australiaroadtrip #roadtripaustralia #aussieroadtrip #lovensw #ilovensw #visitnswaustralia #travelnsw #tourismnsw #spendlocal #supportlocal #supportlocalbusiness #supportlocaltourism #localtourism #staylocal #communitybackpocket #tourismleakage #stoptourismleakage #fishingcharters #fishingcharter #nswfishing #travelexperience #australiatravelblog See more

14.01.2022 Escapism...... the number two reason Aussies are desperate to get overseas for a holiday. . . . We want to #holiday to get away from ‘it all’. To escape to new and exciting pastures. After the grind of daily life, responsibility and routine we seek adventure and an escape from normality. There is a perception that holidaying in one’s own country doesn’t hit the spot when it comes to escaping reality. The physical act of getting on a plane or boat and crossing international ...borders is what we associate with #escapism . . . Do you agree? What do you think? . . . Full blog post link in bio See more
14.01.2022 WE NEED to change our psyche! We’re in this for a while, news yesterday stated Aussies will probably be restricted to domestic travel for another year!! Our local economy needs us to spend our dollars and there are plenty of areas that are still struggling from the adverse events of the past 12 months including bush fires, floods, and of course COVID. So go on, jump in the car, catch a train or even gosh get on a plane! Take a trip and spend you holiday dollars in our own s...hores #localtravel #travelgram #Travelholic #Traveller #Travel_captures #instatravel #traveladdict #travellinggram #travelwithme #mytravelstory #wanderingsoul #justtravel #Mondaymotivation #traveltips #travelinspirations #alternativetourism #regenerativetourism #sustainabletourism #sustainabletravel #responsibletravel #responsibletourism #communitytourism #travelaustralia #australiatravel #australiatravels #staylocal #spendlocal #supportlocal #emptyesky #tourismleakage
12.01.2022 A birthday on the 1st January is rubbish! Christmas is over, New Years been rung in and everyone’s done in! What do you buy the man who’s birthday is always next year and who has everything ....... a crab catching tour of course . . . We’d highly recommend @catchacrabtour for a great morning out for all ages! We fed pelicans, pulled up crab traps, pumped for yabbies and fished The crab was delicious and we learned heaps about the local area, crabs and oysters.... Soft shell crab is the same as a hard shelled crab it’s just at the beginning of the shell cycle! Who knew! There’s a way of testing for a good crab before you buy - bit like the test to tell if your steaks cooked to your liking! A crab can lay up to 2 million eggs! A crab has an apron and if it’s long and pointy it’s a male! Birds Bay is called such due to all the migrating birds that arrive. An oyster farm breeds 40000 oysters in 1 hectare! There’s 20% mortality on an oyster farm. Pacific oysters grow faster and bigger but Rock Oysters have a better flavour. You can get A grade and B grade oysters (the latter go into things like oyster sauce). See more
12.01.2022 Value for money Another reason I found that Aussies have less appetite to holiday domestically. Spending the same amount of money, if not more money and not getting the added benefits of leaving the country is mentally frustrating for many. Flying to Bali with accommodation can cost the same as a weekend in Port Stephens ... But who knows when that ease of jumping on a plan to Bali will be within our grips once again...... where are you going to explore next? #ipreview via @preview.app See more
11.01.2022 @lisa_hunt_byron_bay fills my soul . . . We we’re lucky enough that she was playing at @fishermanswharftaverngc on the #goldcoast when we were up staying with friends which meant I got to smile, laugh, clap and dance around to the beat for this soul goddess.... . . . People, music and food are three key ingredients that make a place for me. What would you add to the mix? What fills your soul when you’re travelling? See more
09.01.2022 I’m not keen on the #goldcoast in general. It’s not me. I find it tacky, ostentatious, lacking in culture or character and generally very bland. Get in the car for 30 minutes though and you’re in the middle of the rainforest! . . . I’d highly recommend the @tamborinerainforestskywalk for the informative trail about all things plant, animal and climate. A fleeting day in this jungle wasn’t enough. Advise would be to stay up in the area and really explore. A lot of the water holes and waterfalls get busy so try to go early before the crowds. We’ll be back for sure
08.01.2022 Bumped into this chap this morning . . . Whilst the rest of Manly was working out, rushing about and getting ready to take on the world this one was just chilling and taking time out. ... . . . A lesson as we enter 2021, before you reach break point, be like Reggie the seal and take time out, even if it’s only 10 minutes to meditate with the sun on your face See more
05.01.2022 Just as I get up with this view every morning because it’s habit..... . . . The third main reason Aussies are desperate to get overseas again is exactly that. Habit. ... We’ve become so accustomed to flying overseas that this is what we associate with the holidaying habit. A complete change of everything culture, weather, food, smells, sounds. There’s the belief that it doesn’t feel like a holiday if we’re still on home soil. We are craving diversity and change and don’t feel that we get this by staying local. . . . Do you agree? Are you making the most of seeing your backyard or hanging out for international travel to open up? . . . Full blog post in bio
05.01.2022 ‘Why I won’t go back to Byron.....in the summer holidays and especially whilst we are living in a COVID world’........ an up and coming blog post for sure. . . . With nostalgic memories of the lively, laid back surf town I visited back in 2002 I was looking forward to my return.... . . . Devastated by the hoards of people, ‘type’ of people, lack of authenticity and general stamp that over tourism puts on a place, I won’t be returning quickly. . . . Tallows Beach was beautiful and with hardly a soul on it, a little slice of heaven outside of the madness . . . #adventureaustralia #australia_oz #australiaadventures #aussieadventures #aussieroadtrip #aussietraveller #aussietravel #travelaustralia #tourismaustralia #visitnsw #destinationnsw #nswtourism #travelnsw #tourismnsw #lovensw #nswroadtrip #roadtripnsw #nswcoast #nswbeaches #byronbay #tallowsbeach #alternativebyron #alternativetravel #overtourism #responsibletravel #responsibletourism #sustainabletravel #communitybackpocket #stoptourismleakage #tourismleakage See more
03.01.2022 It’s an important week down under as we acknowledge the traditional custodians of our incredibly diverse, unbelievably beautiful and wonderfully unique land This week every year we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Although an incredible week which I have nothing but support for it makes me sad that we don’t celebrate more. ... Recently on a NSW outback road trip I was surprised at the lack of aboriginal acknowledgment and instead huge education and information around European settlers. Something I can ant to write about later How do you educate yourself on our ancestral history whilst you travel around what Always Was and Always Will be Aboriginal land? #aboriginal #indigenous #firstnations #aboriginalculture #nativeland #aboriginalpeople #torresstraitislander #aboriginalwomen #islander #instapeople #instaculture #instaaustralia #instahistory #instaeducation #aboriginalart #treecarving #treecarvings #responsibletravel #responsibletourism #sustainabletravel #sustainabletourism #culturaltourism #culturaltravel #tourismleakage #stoptheleakage #communitybackpocket #treesofinstagram #forestsofinstagram #nationalparks
