20.01.2022 Our Founder Lauren Adele Stevens comes from a long line of plumbers - 3 generations in fact. Her Grandfather, Norm Stevens was one of the first plumbers to have a Reece trade account at Reece’s first store in Caulfield + told stories of when his Reece rep would drive out in his car each Wednesday from Box Hill for lunch in Norm’s Malvern workshop + take the week’s materials order down by hand. Lauren’s Dad, Ian has been a plumber for over 50-years + Lauren played in Norm + Ia...n’s Malvern workshop as a little tacker surrounded by tools + pipes. Ian’s joy for plumbing rubbed off on Lauren’s brother, Brent who is also a plumber. Brent was Ian’s apprentice + Ian was Norm’s apprentice. After Lauren launched Community Generation in 2016, Ian became our Ambassador + our organisation partnered with Reece + their amazing initiative The Reece Grant. In 2017, Lauren + Ian chatted to Reece about our Cambodian clean water projects + Ian said doctors cure disease, plumbers prevent it. This phrase was coined by Norm, who used to often proudly tell it to Ian all those years ago, wearing it as a badge of honour. The Reece team loved Ian’s phrase so much they use it as a slogan + Aussie plumbers wear it printed on their backs on worksites every day. Norm would be chuffed to know his phrase doctors cure plumbers prevent has become a badge of honour for all plumbers in an industry he loved + we know he’d be proud of Ian for continuing the family legacy, as Ian was proud of Norm + Brent is proud of Ian. And Lauren, she’s proud of them all! We’re so grateful to Reece + plumbers for helping bring lifesaving clean water + sanitation to the world. More than ever, we are all realising the vital importance of clean water, sanitation + hygiene for disease prevention + survival. We’re working hard in Cambodia in these challenging times + were happy to get an email on Friday from our awesome local Reece store (Thanks Steve! ) with a photo of a plumber’s tattoo that reads doctors cure plumbers prevent. 07.01.2022 Daily life in Toul Vihea Village used to be much harder for the Nhim Chhneang family. They would walk 3km twice a day to collect dirty water from a shared pond, which they would boil, only to regularly still get sick. Now this has all changed and the Nhim Chhneang’s no longer have to collect, boil or worry!
