22.01.2022 May 26, National Sorry Day Today at ACHIA we remember, acknowledge and recognise the Stolen Generations and the ongoing trauma and devastating impact that has affected our Elder's, Father's, Mother's and Children's lives and the suffering they have experienced. We also want to take this opportunity to remember those loved one's who are no longer with us that never made it home.... Sorry Day provides an opportunity for people to come together and share their journey towards healing for the Stolen Generations, their families and communities. On the 26th of May 1997 the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in federal parliament. Bringing Them Home is the final report of the national Inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their families and was conducted by the Human Rights and equal opportunity commission (now called the Australian Human Rights Commission) between 1995 and 1997. On 26 May 1998, the first National Sorry Day was held to commemorate the anniversary of the report and remember the grief, suffering and injustice experienced by the stolen generations. #StolenGenerations #NationalSorryDay

20.01.2022 Community Led Housing Solutions A collaborative new approach to designing culturally appropriate and responsive housing solutions has been announced with two Ab...original organisations successfully selected to work with the NSW Government. Coffs Harbour Aboriginal Family Community Care Centre Incorporated (Abcare) and Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation in Gunnedah will partner with the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) and a nominated government agency to co-design and develop innovative solutions that keep Aboriginal people (including young people) and families at the centre of the design and delivery of these new locally based solutions. AHO’s Chief Executive Jody Broun said the new approach will focus on building strong evidence around the benefits of an Aboriginal led co-design process.

20.01.2022 The Aboriginal Housing Office has delivered four new homes for Aboriginal Elders in Goodooga, specially designed with modified access, including wider doorways ...and ramps to improve accessibility, while the kitchens and bathrooms are easily adaptable to the needs of tenants. The modular homes were constructed by Corrective Services Industry under the Gundi Program in partnership with the AHO to support the most vulnerable people in our community. The construction of these homes provided 18,700 hours of construction training to Aboriginal people whilst also completing TAFE qualifications. Watch the stunning time lapse video below of the homes being constructed. . #StrongFamilyStrongCommunities #NSWAHO

15.01.2022 National NAIDOC Week 2020 celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November. The November dates follow the decision by the National NAIDOC Committee (NNC) to pos...tpone NAIDOC Week from the original July dates due to the impacts and uncertainty from the escalating Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across our communities and cities. The postponement was aimed at protecting our elders and those in our communities with chronic health issues from the disastrous impacts of COVID19. As cooler weather approaches the need to protect our most susceptible remains. Further announcements regarding the National NAIDOC Awards and the reactivation of the 2020 NAIDOC Local Grants Round will be made within coming weeks. The NNC understands that the July dates for NAIDOC may still be acknowledged by communities and organisations, however we are mindful that those celebrations and physical gatherings will still be impacted by the various State and Territory COVID19 restrictions and social distancing measures. We acknowledge the commitment and tireless work of the many State, Territory, regional and local NAIDOC Committees, organisations and individuals whose passion each year makes NAIDOC Week an outstanding success. We thank you for your understanding and working with us during these uncertain times. The NNC are continuing to work with our partners and key stakeholders to make NAIDOC Week 2020 a suitable and fitting celebration of #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

13.01.2022 **ACHIA ABORIGINAL HOUSING CAUCUS ** ACHIA has been monitoring the extraordinary challenges posed by the COVID-19 virus and its potential impact on the Aboriginal Housing Caucus on the 20th October 2020. Given the future of large events is still very uncertain in light of COVID-19, we have come to the view that it will not be possible to produce a high quality caucus whilst also safeguarding the health and safety of all participants.... As a result, ACHIA has made the decision to postpone the ACHIA Aboriginal Housing Caucus 2020. We know that there is value in events that can bring together our members with the government, business, and non-government and housing sectors more broadly. Thank you for your understanding and support. ACHIA Committee
