25.01.2022 Who would have thought you could do gardening by Zoom? With Suzi from the Government House Kitchen Garden, it appears you can! This week, hub participants from St Dominic’s Primary (Broadmeadows) and St Georges Road Primary (Shepparton) learnt first-hand useful tips to help make their garden grow. Everything from keeping snails and slugs at bay to planting basil in amongst tomato plants to ward off pests! Plus, a neat trick when your renting - styrofoam boxes with drainage ...holes so that you can easily transport your garden when you move! Thanks Suzi and the team at Government House connecting our hubs to learnings like these are such great and rich experiences! #ConnectShareLearn

22.01.2022 Earlier this month the Victorian Government released a report into early childhood engagement of culturally diverse communities. CHA wishes to congratulate the committee and chair Natalie Suleyman MP for a comprehensive and well written report. Our thanks go out to all the hub teams, principals and support agencies in Shepparton, Geelong and Dandenong who provided input, gave a hub tour or spoke of the positive impact the hub has had in their community. We are so proud of... our network - and particularly pleased with the reports recommendation that the Victorian Government continue to fund community hubs in Victoria, in recognition that they are a well-established and evidence-based model. To all the Victorian MP's with hubs in their electorate, Frank McGuire Gabrielle Williams MP John Eren MP Josh Bull MP for Sunbury Marlene Kairouz MP Martin Pakula Ros Spence MP Suzanna Sheed Independent MP for the District of Shepparton we hope that you're as proud of this as we are. https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au//LA_LSIC_59-01_Inquiry_i

21.01.2022 We are delighted to further extend our welcome to The Smith Family who, in addition to their support of the hubs program in Victoria, are now also joining our support agency team in Queensland. It is terrific to have them supporting Townsville schools and their hubs, in connecting local families to the services they need. If your school would like to be part of our hubs program in Townsville, or you know a school or community that would, please send us a PM. #communityhubs #townsvillecouncil #townsville #thesmithfamily

18.01.2022 It takes an extraordinary person to run a hub. #ConnectShareLearn

18.01.2022 Starting at a new school is a big step, especially for the children going into Prep. It's great to see our hub families enjoying taking part in Prep transition sessions and getting to know their new teachers and school. Exciting times ahead for everyone.

15.01.2022 Madhura met Soneya when she joined the hub that Soneya runs at Para Vista Primary School in South Australia. Madhura and her family migrated to Australia in late 2019 which meant that they were going through a crucial settling in period when COVID-19 hit. Madhura needed to find work so she could support her family. When she landed an interview for a housekeeping position, she turned to Soneya for help. Soneya helped by teaching her about topics such as occupational health and... safety and COVID safe cleaning practices. Knowing these things helped Madhura stand out and she was offered the role. Madura thanked Soneya by saying, Soneya you helped me to get the job. Knowing about how to talk in the interview, safety issues, chemical handling was helpful in the interview. Thank you very much for your help. Pictured: Madhura, Para Vista Primary School hub participant

14.01.2022 Welcome to Mandy Cox and the Communify Queensland team! It’s terrific having you join the hubs program as our support agency in Brisbane. As support coordinator, Mandy will play a critical role in supporting schools and their hubs in connecting hub families with the programs and services they need. If your school would like to be part of the hubs program in the City of Brisbane, or you know a school or community that would, please send us a PM. #communityhubs #brisbanecit...ycouncil Pictured: Mandy Cox.

13.01.2022 Hang Bui, St Albans Primary (Vic) hub leader, shared this thought after a recent resilience and positivity session. Pre-COVID looked very different for our team. With hubs in four states across Australia and all operating at a local level, there was less opportunity, or even need, to ‘get together’ in person. In recent times we have had to be more creative and purposefully create those opportunities. It is sessions such as this one, with Clare from Top Five Movement, that... have helped us to build a stronger sense of team and a more connected community. #ConnectShareLearn #topfivemovement

12.01.2022 Welcome to our newest community hub! Ian Wren, Principal at Dohertys Creek P-9 College, and his team have joined the community hubs network in Wyndham, Victoria. Their new hub will be ready to welcome individuals and families from migrant and refugee communities at the beginning of the 2021 school year. #communityhubs #wyndhamcitycouncil

10.01.2022 Welcome to the Multicultural Australia team! It’s terrific that you’ve joined the hubs program as our support agency in Rockhampton, Queensland. The role will be critical in supporting schools and their hubs in connecting hub families to the programs and services that they need. If your school would like to be part of our hubs program in Rockhampton, or you know a school or community that would, please send us a PM. #communityhubs #rockhamptonregionalcouncil

08.01.2022 Have you felt disconnected from your community during the pandemic? You're not alone. Social isolation is just one of the horrid things about COVID-19. Restrictions and loss of employment have left families struggling to stay connected and put essential food on the table. Penny, our hub leader from Marsden State School, had families in her hub experiencing these challenges first hand. Through Access Community Services Ltd, one of our support agencies, Penny was able to connec...t with the Sikh community who generously offered pantry food parcels to those in need. Every fortnight, Penny continues to deliver these parcels to many of her hub families, using the opportunity to stay in touch. The other really wonderful thing is the important connection Access made with the Sikh community, which in turn has truly helped hub families in difficult times like these. 07.01.2022 Children are so perceptive aren’t they? They can capture so simply what adults often miss. This poem and artwork are the creations of a young boy when he was recently encouraged to write and draw about what he could see out of his window during COVID. 07.01.2022 Keeping the kids happy and families entertained has certainly been an interesting challenge this year! But mums, dads and kids at the Bert Oldfield Public School community hub in NSW, did just that when they got creative with an afternoon of art, craft and cooking. The added twist? It was all done online through Zoom! Four-year-old Varunya and her family got together with other families from a range of cultural backgrounds and were encouraged to share their artistic and ...culinary skills. All the parents encouraged their children to participate and get involved in the activities which they enjoyed said hub leader, Sivananthini. Even though many hubs have had to run remotely this year, online activities like these have been a great way for hub families to stay connected with one another. 04.01.2022 Connecting with our local community has been a journey of discovery for many of us in this crazy year. Creating community connections is at the heart of what hubs do every day. Laban Toose, Principal at Wyndham Park Primary School (VIC), recently had this to say about the positive impact of his community hub. The difference hubs make can’t be measured directly using NAPLAN data, but the results are extraordinary and so valuable in connecting our hub families with the schoo...l and their community. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
