21.01.2022 Since the beginning of #melbournlockdown, we have seen a significant increase in the number of people experiencing #familyviolence referred to us for legal help... from The Royal Women's Hospital and The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Health care professionals are in a unique position to help people identify that they are experiencing family violence. Hospital visits are often the only safe place for disclosures to be made, providing opportunities to support people to get help they need. This includes referrals for legal assistance. People experiencing family violence often have a range of legal problems, including the need to obtain intervention orders to put a stop to the abuse, make safe child contact arrangements, obtain tenancy help to remain in or move out of rental properties, and to apply for victims of crime assistance to aid recovery. We expect #familyviolence presentations to rise even further when restrictions lift and women have greater freedom to leave their homes and report their experiences.
