11.01.2022 Thank you Wests Ashfield Leagues ClubGRANTS and congratulations to our Women's Transition team! This grant is for 'Hope in Homes - A Fresh Start For Women'. This project will be helping to provide emergency/essential items for our clients - ID documents, basic needs like medications, food and clothing, sanitary items, and mobile phones. It will also go towards a 'move in' household kit of items such as linens and appliances, to help women and their children set up new homes,... to reintegrate into the community. This support enables women to sustain housing, reduce the risk of homelessness, increase self-worth, dignity and connection with the community - to break the cycle of disadvantage, homelessness and incarceration. Due to COVID19 restrictions the presentation has been posted online, take a look to see us and other wonderful services in the inner city region.

11.01.2022 Overcrowded prisons are a serious health risk, but how difficult is to keep people out of prison? Well, according to the latest data from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Researh, the number of adult prisoners fell by more that 11% in NSW between March and May. So how did that happen, if prison is such an inevtiable and neccesary part of our society? Well it turns out, it may not be, "A lot of our clients have regular contact with police and we saw that ease off during the COVID period, so less intense levels of police surveillance..... what we now need to start thinking about is, in times where we're not dealing with considerable health concerns, why is it okay to have a really over-crowded prison system? And why aren't we looking at ways to empty it in the ways we've done in this past few months?"

10.01.2022 "Until black lives matter, not all lives can matter, and we have the statistics and the data to show in this country thatt black lives do not matter" #BlackLivesMatter.

07.01.2022 While life is returning to 'Covid normal' for many of us, face to face visits are still not allowed in NSW prisons and the stress on families is enormous.

03.01.2022 CRC staff were invited to speak yesterday at the NSW Parliament Inquiry into High Level of First Nations People in Custody and Oversight and Review of Deaths in Custody. For our front line First Nations staff this was an important opportunity to share their stories as "Koori knowledge keepers. Our submission addressed the urgent issue of the over-incarceration, over-representation, and high levels of deaths in custody of First Nations people. We know that the Aboriginal an...d Torres Strait Islander communities we work with hold the answers. Our submission for this inquiry was a collaborative effort with a number of our First Nations staff, along with program director Dr. Mindy Sotiri. You can read our recent submission to Parliament on our website: https://www.crcnsw.org.au/advocacy/research/ You can find out more about the Inquiry, and follow future transcripts here: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Pages/committee-details
