25.01.2022 We can all agree that the COVID-19 pandemic has created a lot of challenges for individuals, organisations and communities. Its important that while we may see some changes that have occurred returning to normal, impacts from the pandemic such as mental health may continue long after this is over. Our CEO, Andrew Cairns, recently published an article in Pro Bono Australia discussing the pandemics impact on mental health and the need to continue providing support post COVID-19 to those whose wellbeing may have been impacted. 24.01.2022 To celebrate 150 years of the Royal Childrens Hospital, Bendigo Bank has partnered with the Royal Childrens Hospital Foundation and sponsored a sculpture, known as an UooUoo, for their upcoming art trail. One hundred unique UooUoo sculptures will feature in laneways, streets, parks and public spaces, forming two sections of a walking trail across Melbourne and Geelong. To create the artwork for our unique UooUoo, we asked the Skyline Foundation students submit their design and selected a creative artwork designed by Felicia Nguyen which will be unveiled closer to the anniversary date. 23.01.2022 While COVID-19 heavily impacts everyone across the globe, its important we dont stop the work being done on other issues facing our country, including gender equality. The pay gap between men and women is still an issue with women earning less than men within the same job and sector. To achieve gender equality we need a complete cultural overhaul and businesses have a vital role to play in achieving equality in the workplace. Read our CEO Andrew Cairns recent article published in Pro Bono Australia on how we can all work towards achieving gender equality. http://ow.ly/Aj3b50zeouJ

23.01.2022 A great article in the National Indigenous Times sharing the story and aspirations of our 2020 Indigenous Scholarship recipient Jordan Mlotkowski. Studying a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Social Studies at Macquarie University, Jordan has a strong passion for Aboriginal education and hopes to guide younger generations through his learned experiences. We look forward to following Jordans career and journey through university. http://ow.ly/64QL50zEFqj

20.01.2022 Over the past few weeks we have witnessed the impacts of COVID-19 on organisations, individuals and communities. While Australia has begun to flatten the curve and there are predictions some normality could be returning, the impacts of this pandemic will be felt for many months to come. The government has announced some measures of support, but its important to remember its up to everyone to help rebuild our communities. Support could involve donations to not-for-profit org...anisations helping vulnerable Australians or volunteering at a local sporting club to bring back community sport when the time comes. We all must do our bit. At Bendigo Bank, we have announced a variety of support measures to help not-for-profits during these challenging times and the difficult road ahead. 19.01.2022 Victoria’s Disability Worker Regulation Scheme has brought into effect a code of conduct and mandatory notification requirements for providers and workers around safety concerns. Everyone deserves the right to feel safe in their home and while receiving support or care services. These measures are all important steps in ensuring people with disabilities don’t suffer harm or abuse while receiving care. http://ow.ly/rOx750AuwCP

18.01.2022 The NSW Government last week announced a new $36 million state-based project to help those sleeping rough. In partnership with the NSW Government, community housing providers, specialist homelessness services and health services, the project is the largest housing response in the states history. Providing access to the services people need to maintain their tenancy, improve their health and well-being and move towards training and employment, we hope to see other states or the federal government follow with similar initiatives to provide safe and affordable housing for Australias homeless. http://ow.ly/1pwV50A9Mvu

16.01.2022 Its been shown that when organisations build capacity and invest internally, they accelerate growth, strengthen their support services and are able to have even greater impact on society. Our CEO Andrew Cairns recently wrote a price for Pro Bono Australia discussing the importance of capacity building in not-for-profit organisations to help improve their reach and support for the communities they serve. http://ow.ly/XCTg50AOHrd

16.01.2022 A recent report from Essential Research has found that 1 in 5 Australians feel more positively towards people who are unemployed, impacted by mental health, or those experiencing homelessness as a result of COVID-19. While this research demonstrates increased positivity toward traditionally stigmatised groups, its important that this increased empathy continues and we see the not-for-profit sector, who work tirelessly to support these marginalised groups, become part of the post COVID-19 conversation. http://ow.ly/jpdA50A2oij

16.01.2022 The Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS) have released a COVID-19 edition of the Australian Community Sector Survey to hear from you about the impact the crisis is having on your organisation, team and communities you support. With the survey closing today, it is an opportunity for you to help ACOSS advocate for support for the sector to continue its vital work helping those experiencing poverty and disadvantage. 15.01.2022 Changes due to COVID-19 are happening every day and include how we do business and how organisations operate. With the pandemic set to change Australian society, its important for organisations to understand what changes and impacts there are, how they will be effected and how they can rebuild to continue to support Australians. The Centre of Social Impact is launching a national research program to help the for-purpose sector equip themselves for a future post COVID-19. This is a great step in enabling the sector to understand and get support for short-term needs while getting evidence to help organisations look to the future. http://ow.ly/3qpF50zCev9

15.01.2022 The Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation last week announced a further $550,000 of funding to support the charitable and not-for-profit sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the $250,000 grant provided to Alfred Healths Infectious Diseases Unit, six grants were provided to not-for-profit organisations across homelessness, health and social enterprises sectors. Understanding the importance of funding for the sector to allow them to continue to carry out the work they do in supporting vulnerable people and communities during this difficult time, the Charitable Foundation has launched COVID-19 Community Resilience Fund Account to continue supporting critically important charitable and health organisations. http://ow.ly/WtwI50zvy0l

13.01.2022 COVID-19 is bringing with it a variety of challenges including financial stress, impacts on mental health and social isolation. However during this pandemic, people experiencing homelessness and vulnerable Australians are facing further challenges as support services scale back and meal options become harder to find. With Australias homeless population facing further barriers to seeking support, we need to remember that social issues including homelessness are everybodys responsibility. While the government has come to table recently with some sector support during the COVID-19 pandemic, its important we continue to support not-for-profits and charities who support vulnerable Australians and find new and creative ways to support those Australians doing it tough. http://ow.ly/Fv5f50zeowu

12.01.2022 Australias population is aging and nowhere more than in rural and remote areas. With an aging population comes a greater need for aged care services and home care packages. Our CEO Andrew Cairns recently wrote a piece for Pro Bono Australia discussing the interim report from The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and the need for a solution to the challenges of providing aged care in rural and remote areas to ensure older Australians receive care and support in a timely manner. http://ow.ly/7kaB50Ak48o

12.01.2022 A recent report from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute has found that a growing number of families experiencing homelessness due to varying factors are coming against challenges in how the homelessness services system provides them support. Its important we ensure the system is correctly supporting families and understanding their individual circumstances and needs. The cause of homelessness for one family may not be the same for others and this root cause ...could determine the differing services each family requires such as affordable and suitable accommodation, child welfare or education. We need to do more to ensure we are meeting both the immediate and long term needs of families facing these challenges. Social housing, which requires investment from multiple sectors, will help support families experiencing homelessness and ensure everyone has access to safe housing. https://probonoaustralia.com.au//vulnerable-aussie-famili/ See more

The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete and responses will help advocate for support for the sector to continue i...ts vital work helping those experiencing poverty and disadvantage. To complete the survey, click here: http://ow.ly/bSBE50AuwAm The survey closes on 21 July 2020.

08.01.2022 We recently caught up with the team from the Royal Childrens Hospital Foundation at their design studio where our selected artist, Felicia Nguyen, was designing our Uoo Uoo for the 150-year celebration art trail. Felicias design was inspired by gum ball machines and the feeling of joy they bring to us when we are young. We look forward to seeing this UooUoo and the many other designs on the art trail when it launches in 2021.

08.01.2022 As we all navigate uncharted territory, one thing doesnt change the need to support vulnerable people, groups, communities and the planet. Fundraising and strategy in times of crisis is as important as ever given recent social and economic developments stemming from the bushfires and now COVID-19. Bendigo Bank, in partnership with Wendy Brooks and Partners, have created the 2020 Disruptive Ideas Forum to share learnings from our peers and partners to help build capacity in... the not-for-profit sector during these challenging times. Register to hear strategies and ideas from Sarah Davies (Philanthropy Australia), Jessica Macpherson OAM (St Kilda Mums) and Amanda McKenzie (Climate Council) to ensure your organisations gets the funding it deserves in 2020 . http://ow.ly/fLia50zfyYZ

07.01.2022 COVID-19 continues to bring challenges as lock down is slowly eased and organisations can start to think about returning to business as usual. Its possible that some organisations havent felt the full impacts of COVID-19 on their business. Support has been announced for the not-for-profit sector during the pandemic and this support is also available beyond lock down and the peak of the pandemic. 06.01.2022 Young people report they feel unprepared and unable to protect themselves and their communities during natural disasters such as bushfires, floods and droughts. The comprehensive consultation of young people and children on climate change, disasters and disaster-resilience carried out by the Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience and World Vision Australian, found an over whelming majority of survey participants said they felt they were not heard by leaders in the government. Young people across the country have the ability to affect change and its important we listen to them and give them the opportunity to have their voices heard, particularly on topics that will impact their future. http://ow.ly/vVha50B7Yf7

05.01.2022 Our 2020 Social Investment Grants Program is now open and accepting applications from not-for-profit organisations building capacity for impact. With a total grants pool of $300,000 available, not-for-profit organisations can apply for a $25,000 or $50,000 grant. Applications close at 11.59pm on Friday 11 September.... 03.01.2022 With information coming through on COVID-19 assistance measures from a variety of channels, it is understandable that this information could be hard to understand and difficult to gather. Our CEO Andrew Cairns recently wrote a piece for Pro Bono Australia detailing the assistance available from the federal government, the Australian Banking Association and Bendigo Bank to help not-for-profits navigate what support measures are relevant to them and understand what is available to help them through this pandemic. http://ow.ly/Shi150zp1mK

02.01.2022 The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) has launched a national campaign asking all club across the country to complete their survey to show the true impact of COVID-19 on grassroots sports. With a lot of conversation focused on the impact on elite and professional sport, there is a real concern for community sport, with local sponsorship stopped and income virtually ceased due to membership freezes. Hoping to gather as much information as possible on the challenges faced by clubs and their funding needs, the ASF will use this information to seek support for grassroots sport which, in some cases, can form the heart of a community. To participate visit: http://ow.ly/3ejx50zPN0Q

02.01.2022 Earlier this year the Australian Sports Foundation carried out a survey to understand the impact COVID-19 is having on community sport. The survey has highlighted the struggle community sport is facing; with an estimated loss of $1.6 billion and the need for an additional $1.2 billion to survive the pandemic. Its important to remember that grassroots sport isnt just about the game itself, its about community, the coming together of groups to support each and the positive impact it has on physical and mental health. Its important we come together to show our collective support for community sport to ensure it continues to play a role in our communities. http://ow.ly/hXuN50AFMFJ
