24.01.2022 The World Health Organisation has put out some posters on the most effective handwashing and handrubbing method so I thought I'd share them here. Community Visitors should all be familiar with these.

20.01.2022 CVS is seeking a mature aged man with experience and knowledge of Apple iPad to spend time with an older gent and show him some of the features and teach him how to use it, and perhaps adjust some of the settings to help with access. If you're interested, would you please message me or call me on 6640 3812.

12.01.2022 Community Visitors are such special people. Not only do you bring joy and happiness to the people you visit but often also providing peace of mind to carers and family that their loved one has a friend who cares about them as much as they do.

10.01.2022 SHARE IDEAS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HEALTHY AGING ACTIVITIES. Health authorities are always banging on about the importance of active aging and trying new things in order to keep mind and body healthy as we age so why not share with others the things you enjoy doing that keeps you healthy... feel free to include the business names and costs/fees if relevant to the activity. Businesses, clubs and groups are welcome to add your own senior friendly activities. For me, SarahBeth Yoga on YouTube has been my comfort in isolation but now with the easing of the COVID rules, group classes are not out of the question. Feel free to plot the things you'd like to try on the planner provided and open yourself up to new challenges and experiences.

06.01.2022 STUDY FINDS FRIENDSHIPS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN KEEPING US HEALTHY AS WE AGE: Thanks to a recent study by William J. Chopik, a psychologist at Michigan State University, There is now a large body of research supporting the idea that close relationships enhance health and well-being across the lifespan. Looking at both family relationships and friendships, the study found that people who valued their family relationships overall were happier and in better health than thos...e who didn’t, a finding that stayed constant throughout life. The value of friendship, however, had an increasing return the older the participants were, the more important a role their friendships played in keeping them sane and healthy. This was especially true when looking at the development of age-related chronic illnesses: the quality of friendships was an important predictor of whether or not someone would acquire a chronic illness as they got older, whereas the quality of family relationships was not (though it did predict one’s subjective well-being). https://www.thecut.com//in-old-age-friends-might-matter-ev

03.01.2022 HOW TO RESTORE MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT WHEN VISITING SOMEONE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA: The Montessori educational method is proving to be revolutionary in its approach to engaging people with Dementia. As cognitive function declines, it's difficult to maintain a conversation but that does not mean you can not engage meaningfully in other ways. In fact Montessori encourages less language and more non-verbal communication such as demonstrated actions as a way of avoiding frustratin...g and awkward interactions. By getting to know about the person's life, you can draw on the familiar to engage them in simple, meaningful activities. There is a brilliant guide produced by Monash University through funding provided by Alzheimer's Australia that outlines the principles of Montessori and provides 28 suggested activity ideas along with methods. 03.01.2022 Believe in yourself and you will be unstoppable.

03.01.2022 I've never been one to dive in to cold water. I'm the one on the steps slowly edging my way in while pleading with others not to splash but I think I can be encouraged. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-54531075
