23.01.2022 The weather is getting warmer, and here come the ticks! If you haven’t already done so, please give your pet tick preventative such as Bravecto, Nexgard, Advantix (dogs) or Simparica as soon as possible. While these are very effective, they are not guaranteed to stop ticks so it is important to regularly check your pet for any ticks as well. Signs of tick paralysis include:... - a change in their bark or meow (raspy or quiet) - vomiting, retching and/or gagging - weakness in the back legs - unable to stand - difficulty breathing Paralysis ticks are increasingly seen more often when living close to bush land, be extra vigilant if you are travelling to more commonly known tick areas such as the Central Coast and Southern Highlands. If you find a tick, tick crater (the scab left behind once the ticks falls off) and/or your pet is displaying any of these symptoms, please bring them in immediately for assessment and treatment. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your pet please give us a call!!

11.01.2022 As the COVID-19 situation continues we have some new information regarding the safety of the community, staff and pets. To minimise client traffic in the practice, we have put the following measures in place for the safety of our staff and community: - For all consultations, we kindly ask you to please only bring one person per animal, and we are only allowing one person in the consultation room with the vet at a time. ... - If you require any medications/food/other products, we also kindly ask you to please call ahead so we can put these items aside for you. You can even pay over the phone so that you can pick up your items faster. - We are highly encouraging EFTPOS payments over cash. We are more than happy to take over the phone payments to make things faster and easier. - We kindly ask everyone to respect the social distance that the government has put in place of 1.5M. Due to this, we are allowing three people in the reception area at a time. For other enquiries, please give us a call for all new information. Our number is 9543 6912 We thank you for your understanding at this time. Stay safe, everyone.

07.01.2022 Summer is here and temperatures are beginning to soar, a common issue that all caring pet owners should be aware of is heatstroke (also known as heat stress). With the heat of the summer months, the number of cats and dogs visiting the vet due to this condition rises. Cats and dogs cannot respond to heat in the same way that us humans do. We have sweat glands all over our bodies that help us regulate our temperature, but dogs and cats only have a few in their feet and around... their noses. Many animals rely on panting and external cooling to lose heat. Their long thick hair coats can also predispose them to heat stroke. Because they’re not able to cool themselves down we have to provide them with areas to cool down with access to fresh drinking water. Great ways to cool your pets down are: - Shell pools in the shade - Walk early mornings or late afternoons remember - If you can’t leave your hand on pavement, your pet can’t walk on it, they don’t have shoes and can get blisters. If I’m doubt place the back of your hand on the pavement and if it’s hot then don’t walk - Ice blocks! Fill up an old ice cream container with treats or pet safe fruit, and let them lick that for hours trying to get them out - Frozen treats in their water bowls - Have two or three water bowls around the backyard - For rabbits - frozen water bottles in their cage so they can cool down next to them - let also not forget our native animals, please put a fresh bowl of water out for them in the shade If you have any extra suggestions post them below, we all want to keep our pets safe this summer so any suggestions are appreciated. If you think your pet is suffering heat stroke bring them up to the clinic immediately

03.01.2022 If any of our amazing clients have any spare towels and hand towels that they would be willing to donate to us that would be much appreciated
