Our understanding after hearing and reading updated statements is as follows; You can fish for 2hrs per day, the same permitted for outdoor exercise. No curfew on when you can fish.... Boating is not allowed at present in any craft that is not human powered. ie kayaks and kayak based fishing is ok, motor-powered boating is not. Boat ramps, piers and jetties are prohibited for use. Shore based fishing be it, rocks, beach, river or lake bank is all ok - provided the location is within your 5km radius. Attached is the statement from VFA with their outlines, and when any additional details are disclosed we will update you all. Remember to abide by all covid-19 guidelines and social distancing measures. Hopefully the next few weeks more good news comes and we can get back to enjoying our fishing! https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3297510500340923&id=279684478790222

16.01.2022 Although fishing is still off the cards at the minute unfortunately there's been plenty of talk about new soft plastic styles on the market for the upcoming season - with 'stretchy' or natural plastic materials available. They both have their differences and should be treated accordingly. Here staff member Dylan runs through rigging both styles to get the most out of your plastics!

15.01.2022 A lovely rainy Monday morning here in Melbourne! For those lucky enough to enjoy a fish over the weekend, or those at home getting themselves ready for later in the month - here's a quick piece of gear maintenance from staff member Chris that should help your outfits last longer!

15.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all the fishing and non-fishing dads out there! Although times are hard, we hope you can see the joy in the small things and we'll see you back on the again soon!

15.01.2022 Tuna time: Even though conditions haven't been ideal for many during the week, there have been some keen anglers making the most of the decreased boat traffic offshore and tangling with some good size bluefin tuna. With some better weather forecast for the weekend and early into the week there should be more tuna reports coming from outside both bays. The water offshore from Port Phillip heads has been teaming with life, including bluefin tuna to 30kgs. While these fish can b...e aggressive and hit with speed and anger, they will also shy away from lots of different lure offerings if they aren't interested. Most anglers having regular success on them have been incorporating some form of teaser, be it a flasher style rig or soft surface squid 'flippy floppy'. Customer Johnny fished with mate Will during the week where they shot outside from Sorrento. The boys found success in slow trolling 150mm poppers around the edge of the schools giving them the occasional bloop to entice an enquiry. Customer Zak also boated a couple of lovely tuna during the week, and offshore from Port Phillip also. Zak found that small skirts in the 4 - 5'' range were the most effective when run in conjunction with a flippy floppy teaser. Small bullet style heads running off the teaser also provide straight predictable tracking to help the fish line the lure up. Customer Billy fished with mates out from the heads and landed some nice fish in the 20kg mark on skirts up to 6 inches in length. Running polished bullet heads behind flasher rigs was the most effective method, and in water around 50m deep. See more

This way we can provide everyone with the tackle they need, in a safe manner!

13.01.2022 Snaps, commonly used for most anglers for many forms of lure fishing including squid and trout fishing. There are many different snaps out there however, and some work much better than others for certain forms of fishing. Here staff member George dives in and explains the differences, and how you can choose the correct snap for your form of fishing!

12.01.2022 Here's the latest piece of health advice that's applicable to us all. Hopefully a couple more weeks and we'll all be able to get out and enjoy our fishing again!

12.01.2022 Here's a fairly simple yet overlooked process of correctly rigging up a live freshwater yabby as bait. Often seen rigged incorrectly which decreases your catch rate, and makes you go through more yabbies than you need! Staff member Chris shows us the correct method of presenting the yabby in the best manner for all fish!

12.01.2022 Snapper rigging 101; how to get the most out of your baits! Ensuring that they are rigged correctly can be the difference between missed bites or fish in the boat! Here staff member Chris gives the good oil on presenting baits correc6in port phillip bay.

10.01.2022 Here is a small, but handy tip for everyone out fishing the stocked suburban lakes - or for any light tackle shore based bait fishing. The correct use of the simple folding rod holder. Here staff member George explains how the correct angle of your rod can help land you more fish!

09.01.2022 Thank you to all our customers for your support over this past year, which has proven challenging for everyone. Here's to lots of fishing adventures during 2021.

09.01.2022 WPB gummies and snapper: Now is a great time of year to be fishing locally, especially in Western Port. The large gummies on offer around the Western entrance and inside the port are excellent with some seriously-sized females moving in to pup. Fishing fresh baits along the bottom curve of a channel or gutter will generally lead to tangling with one of these fish, it just comes down to timing the stage of the tide. Customer Trent landed a ripper gummy fishing along the edge o...f the main western channel near Vetnor. Fishing chunks of freshly caught yakka and trevally provided Trent with the opportunity to release this 25kg fish. Customer Dan also landed a ripper gummy fishing with mate Seb. The guys were fishing around the Western entrance where they found some nice patches of reef and fresh bait in the form of wrasse and parrotfish. Fishing nearby to the reef resulted in a lovely shark of around 20kgs. Large chunk baits tend to ward most small pickers away in this environment, and leave plenty for the larger gummies to hone in on. There have been some nice school snapper caught in the port by anglers fishing the cunjie ground and rubble through areas like the north arm out from Hastings, and across towards the corals in similar bottom terrain. Fresh squid, pilchard and yakka have been the best-chance baits. Customer Nigel has been fishing the North arm in Western port where he has consistently been landing snapper up to 70cm. Nigel has been fishing small patches of cunjie in 10 - 13m of water. Most of the school fish have been sized from 55 - 65cm and have been taken on pilchard. See more

07.01.2022 Keen trout fisher Javier Kay, 17, had been saving for the perfect fly fishing rod But then a lucky catch at Lake Catani didn’t just net him a 53cm brown trout,... it also landed him with $2000 and he was able to purchase his dream rod! And while he knew about the Golden Tag competition, he didn’t actually realise there was a tagged fish in Lake Catani, near Mount Buffalo, until he ran into a ranger 5 minutes before he caught the valuable trout and the ranger told him about it! After I had a chat with the ranger and he mentioned there were Golden Tag trout in there, I thought ‘I might be in with a shot here! And it was perfect! Fishing for trout is my passion and I really want to get into fly fishing and had my eye on a rod and was saving towards it, so I knew exactly how I was going to spend some of my winnings. 01.01.2022 Today at 4pm on 7Mate, Al McGlashan heads back up north for another great northern adventure! If you miss it, head over to 7plus.com.au to catch up!

01.01.2022 Rain firing up the trout: The bit of rain that some of the state has received over the past fortnight has really given a breath of life for the freshwater streams and lakes, and fired the trout up some more. With a rise in water levels and an increase in water turbidity the trout have been actively feeding up and responding well to anglers fishing lures. Customer Matt has been fishing the pondage at Eildon over the past few weeks and has been landing some quality trout on lur...es. With overcast conditions and passing rain the trout have been patrolling the riverbed edge and flats looking for some easy prey. Matt's spoon style lures throw a lot of light and have an erratic action when slowly retrieved so they have been an excellent searching style of lure to find which areas the fish have been patrolling. Customer Vince has also been doing some trout fishing in the streams between Eildon and Noojee and he is also finding some decent size trout. Some of the larger tributaries have been producing brown trout to over 50cm. Most of the fish in these type of waterway are generally in the 20 - 25cm size range, so fish this size are exceptional. Vince has been fishing one of his favoured light spin rods with small hardbodies for all the action. The more tannin in the water the brighter the lure colour for extra contrast, with orange and black being favourites for him. Any rain event during Summer and Autumn can provide an extra boost in trout activity in the local rivers. If you're going to bait fish these rivers baits like cut worm are excellent after rain also.
