19.01.2022 Happy New Year Anglers and I hope you have all been enjoying this summer weather we are having! Well, it may not be as warm as we expect an Australian summer to be, but the local Sydney fishing has been great. So here is the run down on what is happening on the Sydney scene, and remember we are open 5 days a week, we have the best range of fishing tackle in Sydney and are always here to help you with any advice. Kingfish are still on the bite! The Harbour, Botany Bay, Port... Hacking and Pittwater have all had solid reports over the last week on Kingfish. They have been a lot smaller in size with plenty of fish undersized, but there are still lots of legal fish among the pack. Shore based anglers have been able to fish for them from many of the Harbour wharfs while the boat based angler is spoiled for choice with so many reports from all of the estuaries. There has still been some large specimens caught mostly offshore, with anglers jigging and live baiting the peak 12 Mile Long Reef and other offshore reefs, netting the best results on the larger fish. The rain has really increased the Mulloway activity in the estuaries and off the beaches. The Hawkesbury, Georges and Parramatta Rivers have all been pretty constant with plenty of fish being caught. Live baits or stripes of Yellowtail and Mullet have been doing best and fishing around the big tide changes will also help. Whiting have also been very strong, with lots of prawns around this summer they have been on the bite. The Hacking has been very good particularly in the quieter bays with sand flats. A little bit of burley and peeled prawns and light line is all you need. Off the rocks the Bonito run has started great reports for the last 2 weeks of these little speedsters. We have reports from as north as Avoca to as south as hill 60, so they are spread out a bit. But Sydney has many headlands that you can target these fish and either uses a Pilchard under a float or spin with 40 gram metal slices or a deep diving minnow. Off shore, it’s also getting exciting. The game anglers are already having a good season on the east coast. A lot of Stripped Marlin have been in close around the slimy bait schools off Sydney, But it looks like we are going to have a steady run of Black Marlin which are generally a inshore fish making it easier for the trailer/boat game angler . Dolphin fish are just starting to be captured; mostly small fish at this stage but this can change very quickly! So there is a brief rundown on what has been happening in the Sydney CBD area. Plenty to get excited about and don’t forget that we are open 5 days a week and have an excellent selection of tackle, bait and lures for whatever fishing you want to do. 19.01.2022 A steamy week has gone by with some spectacular fishing going on all throughout Sydney, so here is the rundown on what's going on! The warmer currents have caused some great fishing in terms of pelagics off of Sydney! There are some meter kingfish being caught in the inshore reefs and also right up against the headlands off of Botany Bay, Sydney harbour and the Hawkesbury. Some large schools of rat kingfish have been caught off Maroubra on smaller stickbaits and Sluggos. Thes...e fish are quite timid so using lighter leaders and smaller presentations have been working best such as small clear stickbaits. Jigging in popular areas such as the twelve mile has also been productive where most of the larger kingfish have been caught. Using larger knife jigs such as the very effective 'Catch Long John Slider' which was designed in New Zealand works a treat on these hoodlums! Using heavy leaders and tight drags is essential when chasing these fish as they will test every inch of your gear for any weaknesses! Other pelagic activity has also been productive with many Salmon and Tailor schools being found in Botany Bay, Sydney Harbour and the Hacking. As per usual these fish have been particularly fussy, so using small baitfish flys such as the 'Lonks Candies' work the best. Although small metals and clear stickbaits work well. Game reports have been going through the roof with many yellowfin being caught off of Jervis Bay with many people catching. Using a variety of lures from topwater skirts to vibes is key to figuring out what style of bait they are feeding on. Many people have also found these fish to be pushed down deep, so cubing them up and or jigging and live baiting is essential for catching these weary fish. Rivers have finally started to kick back into gear with plenty of flathead, bream and whiting being caught in the Georges and Parramatta river. Finding deeper holes have been proving to catch most of the fish, although close up against structure has been holding a fair few estuary perch and the odd big bream. Using the special spice chicken and fresh prawns are ideal, although using soft plastics from 'Munroes Soft Plastics' are working particularly well with a bit of 'Gulp rub on scent'. Worth the drive or walk wherever you live in Sydney ! Again it’s been a great week of fishing reports so here is ...a rundown on what’s been happening in the Sydney area. The tasty Whiting are certainly on this year! Very good reports form Botany Bay, the Hacking ,Middle harbor and Pittwater this week. Mostly on the shallow sand flats and drop offs, there is many places from the Boat and Shoreline that you can target these fish. Light line has been the key with anglers using as light as 4lb fluorocarbon leaders to get the bites, and fished with very light sinkers. Peeled Hawkesbury prawns and worms have been the best baits, but also strips of squid has also been working well. Burley has also been crucial. There has also been good numbers Bream and Trevally in the Sydney estuaries. Flathead have also been firing in the Harbour, drifting Rose bay and the Manly area. Large 50cm Tailor have also been in the estuaries and large schools of Slimy mackerel are also in the Harbour now. The Kings still have not stopped!!! It’s been bordering on silly in the Harbor over the last couple of months, with still plenty of reports this week of Kings vary in size, from 50cm to 90cm+ tackle busters ! The lack of rain has pushed them well upstream still, with reports as far up as Gladesville area in the Parramatta and Bantrey bay in middle harbour. They have been very spread throughout the harbour this year so there are plenty of options for shore based and boat based anglers. Live baits and Lures have the best choice and peak time has been early morning Off the rocks there still have been Salmon and kingfish for the live baiters off the Maroubra rock ledges. Tailors have also been around Port Kembla and Hill 60. The southern beaches have been fishing well for Flathead and Whiting, and still plenty of salmon for a bit of fun. Inshore fishing has still been very steady. The reefs at Ballambi are still producing some quality reds in 50m. Large Kingfish have been jigged on the Peak and FADS. And the Flathead have still been easy to catch drifting the reef edges. Offshore the Sydney game scene has been a little patchy. A couple of Yellowfin Tuna and Marlin were captured at the southern canyons, and some reports at Browns Mountain on Albacore Tuna. So there is a bit of a rundown on Sydney over the last 7 days, as mentioned we are open 6 days a week and have Sydney’s best range of the latest fishing tackle. The great thing at this point is that we have not received the full down pours of rain that were predicted. 07.01.2022 Well it looks like we are going to have some great fishing weather for the weekend which is great news! Here is a rundown on what's been happening, and remember Sydney Compleat Angler is open 5 days a week , and here to help you with any of your fishing needs ! There is some great size Tailor getting around the estuaries and ocean rocks at the moment. The rain in recent week has pushed a lot of the baitfish out from the rivers, into the main body of the bays. So areas like ...Lion island in the Hawkesbury, the sow and pigs area and la perouse in botany bay have all areas where the tailor have been found. The Tailor have been solid in size, averaging 40cm plus, and in great condition. A couple of XL tailor in the 60cm size are also among them. Popper and small stick baits have been a great way to get them. The Sydney rivers are surprisingly cleaning up quick after the rain, We have several good reports of Bream, Flathead and Whiting all on the bite agin . Villawood staff member Daniel fishing the Parramatta this week had a great session on the Estuary perch catch and released a dozen fish in the high 30 size. A few Jewfish reports also from Abbotsford wharf and the mouth of the Cooks river also, so the rivers are back on again for a fish. Offshore Sydney looks great. Anglers have been finding the Yellowfin Tuna in the 25kg to 35kg size just inside the shelf. Some of the fish have been deep so Live Baits and jigs are very effective options if they are just not feeding on the surface. Sydney Striped marlin have also been caught this week, Can't wait to hear the reports this weekend with some good weather predicted !! Ocean rocks have been great with the Tailor as mentioned, and still them Big Kings are lurking around also. The bream and trevally are also inclose among the washes just fishing unweighted pilchard baits, great easy way to fish. On the Beach, the Tailor have not been as thick yet, but still plenty of salmon around. Some beaches have had a lot of blue bottles on some of them so just be careful when fishing at night time. Squid have also been back on again, The Harbour piers have been fishing well, small jigs have been the key for them !
