10.01.2022 Well it looks like we are going to have some great fishing weather for the weekend which is great news! Here is a rundown on what's been happening, and remember Villawood Compleat Angler is open 7 days a week, and here to help you with any of your fishing needs ! There is some great size Tailor getting around the estuaries and ocean rocks at the moment. The rain in recent week has pushed a lot of the baitfish out from the rivers, into the main body of the bays. So areas lik...e Lion island in the Hawkesbury, the sow and pigs area and la perouse in botany bay have all areas where the tailor have been found. The Tailor have been solid in size, averaging 40cm plus, and in great condition. A couple of XL tailor in the 60cm size are also among them. Popper and small stick baits have been a great way to get them. The Sydney rivers are surprisingly cleaning up quick after the rain, We have several good reports of Bream, Flathead and Whiting all on the bite again . Villawood staff member Daniel fishing the Parramatta this week had a great session on the Estuary perch catch and released a dozen fish in the high 30 size. A few Jewfish reports also from Abbotsford wharf and the mouth of the Cooks river also, so the rivers are back on again for a fish. Offshore Sydney looks great. Anglers have been finding the Yellowfin Tuna in the 25kg to 35kg size just inside the shelf. Some of the fish have been deep so Live Baits and jigs are very effective options if they are just not feeding on the surface. Sydney Striped marlin have also been caught this week, Can't wait to hear the reports this weekend with some good weather predicted !! Ocean rocks have been great with the Tailor as mentioned, and still them Big Kings are lurking around also. The bream and trevally are also in close among the washes just fishing un-weighted pilchard baits, great easy way to fish. On the Beach, the Tailor have not been as thick yet, but still plenty of salmon around. Some beaches have had a lot of blue bottles on some of them so just be careful when fishing at night time. Squid have also been back on again, The Harbour piers have been fishing well, small jigs have been the key for them ! 04.01.2022 A steamy week has gone by with some spectacular fishing going on all throughout Sydney, so here is the rundown on what's going on! The warmer currents have caused some great fishing in terms of pelagics off of Sydney! There are some meter kingfish being caught in the inshore reefs and also right up against the headlands off of Botany Bay, Sydney harbour and the Hawkesbury. Some large schools of rat kingfish have been caught off Maroubra on smaller stickbaits and Sluggos. Thes...e fish are quite timid so using lighter leaders and smaller presentations have been working best such as small clear stickbaits. Jigging in popular areas such as the twelve mile has also been productive where most of the larger kingfish have been caught. Using larger knife jigs such as the very effective 'Catch Long John Slider' which was designed in New Zealand works a treat on these hoodlums! Using heavy leaders and tight drags is essential when chasing these fish as they will test every inch of your gear for any weaknesses! Other pelagic activity has also been productive with many Salmon and Tailor schools being found in Botany Bay, Sydney Harbour and the Hacking. As per usual these fish have been particularly fussy, so using small baitfish flys such as the 'Lonks Candies' work the best. Although small metals and clear stickbaits work well. Game reports have been going through the roof with many yellowfin being caught off of Jervis Bay with many people catching. Using a variety of lures from topwater skirts to vibes is key to figuring out what style of bait they are feeding on. Many people have also found these fish to be pushed down deep, so cubing them up and or jigging and live baiting is essential for catching these weary fish. Rivers have finally started to kick back into gear with plenty of flathead, bream and whiting being caught in the Georges and Parramatta river. Finding deeper holes have been proving to catch most of the fish, although close up against structure has been holding a fair few estuary perch and the odd big bream. Using the special spice chicken and fresh prawns are ideal, although using soft plastics from 'Munroes Soft Plastics' are working particularly well with a bit of 'Gulp rub on scent'. Don't forget to pop into the store for the best gear and advice in Sydney and see all the products which have been listed in the report. 01.01.2022 Hi Anglers, what a great week for reports again!!, pity the swell is about to increase for the weekend. But still looks fishable in the esutures and maybe on Sunday. Well here is the rundown for the week, and remember we are open 7 days and have Sydney's best range of fishing tackle, worth the drive ! but you will get in trouble ! Have to start with the amazing game fish run we are experiencing off Sydney's coastline at the moment. The warm current is pushing right inclose,... bringing all sorts of fish with it from Black and striped marlin, Dolphin fish, Striped Tuna and Mack Tuna. We had a good weather window on thursday to fish. We had reports of Marlin souths and north of Sydney with most fish found inclose (under 10kms), the fish have been found among bait schools or structures such as reefs like the peak, long reef, and southern reefs of port hacking. The small tuna such as Mack tuna and Stripe tuna, have also been in this area and can be seen on the surface feeding in little schools. Great fun on light spin gear and obviously good areas to target a marlin. Dolphin fish have been very consistent also. All the FADS have fish on them. Some days one is fishing better than others, but its Really important to get there early and please be respectful when fishing with multiple boats on the FADS, we all can catch them !! The warm water has also stimulated the kingfish activity on the inshore reefs. Some good fish in the 90cm size have been caught out wide. But also the rock anglers have been getting among them on live baits in Sydney. Snapper fishing has also been good, and with this southerly swell hitting today and saturday, would be a great idea to get out there after that settles down. Off the rocks and beaches, Tailor fishing has been great. Some proper Tailor in the 50cm size being captured along with whiting and flathead. As mentioned on the rocks Kings have been active and the spin guys having a ball with Bonito and the occasional Mack Tuna . In The estuaries the evening rain we have been getting has fired up the jewfish in the rivers. The Parramatta and Botany bay area has had some nice fish caught this week. Not huge fish , mainly in the 80cm size, but great fun to catch. Flathead Bream and Whiting have continued to be very active still in all of the estuaries and rivers also. Squid fishing in the Harbour, Hacking and Pittwater has been great. Small squid jigs 1.8 have been working the best, with good numbers of Arrow Squid in the estuaries and larger southern calmaria out towards the ocean and rocks on larger 3.5 jigs So there's a run down on what's been happening, hopefully the weather report is wrong this weekend and the swell dies down and we get a chance to get among the action Good luck and thanks for all the reports in store this week !
