24.01.2022 TODAY'S PUBLIC SPEAKING TIP FROM KERRY - How to prepare for a high stakes presentation I recently competed in public speaking contests in Melbourne; representing South Australia. Knowing the importance and status of these events, I prepared myself to perform at my best and it paid off as I won first place in one of the contests. ... Today, I share with you some tips on how to prepare yourself the next time you have to give a presentation that matters to you. STEP 1: Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse - the words, the body language and the staging. The more familiar you are with how all of these elements hang together, the more you can be 'present' on the day and concentrate your efforts on enjoying the moment. STEP 2: Seek feedback from those you trust. Seeking feedback and suggestions for improvement can take your presentation to the next level and give you more confidence in its quality. STEP 3: Visualise success rather than getting caught up in the fear of what may go wrong. STEP 4: Practice power poses so that you look and feel more confident. STEP' 5: Plan strategies for engaging with your audience from the beginning of your presentation. If you are interested in learning more tips, book your ticket to 'The Essential Public Speaker's Toolkit' workshop being held next Saturday 6 July at the Education Development Centre, Hindmarsh. Click on the events tab on my facebook page to get your tickets. Hope to see you there.

21.01.2022 CHANGING YOUR POSTURE FOR 2 MINUTES CAN MAKE YOU FEEL MORE CONFIDENT & COMFORTABLE WHEN COMMUNICATING I had another rewarding day facilitating a workshop at headspace Mount Gambier. The workshop was on how to present with confidence and how to provide quality feedback. This photo shows participants practicing power posing, which psychologist Amy Cuddy suggests can make you feel more confident &comfortable if you hold it for 2 minutes. Staff and volunteers at headspace play an important role in the community sharing the services of this amazing organisation and therefore it is important that they feel confident in their ability to communicate and influence.

To any women out there who thinks you don't have a voice, take some inspiration from Helen Reddy's 'I am Woman' - I remember reciting some of the words in a speech I gave in High School 'Yes I am wise, but it's wisdom more than pain. Yes I've paid the price but look how much I've gained. If I had to, I could do anything, I am strong, I am Invincible, I AM WOMAN!!! Remember, you deserve to be heard!!!

18.01.2022 Working online opened up new opportunities for me and my clients in 2020 Many of my face-to-face workshops were postponed in 2020. Luckily I was able to adapt and deliver online for science students & academics from the University of Adelaide. The Co-chair of the Institute of Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) Scientific Network Committee commented that:... Kerry’s seminar’s really struck a chord with our members. As our working environments are changing and becoming more online it is important to learn new professional skills to keep pace. Kerry was very flexible The seminars were very popular and she provided immediate feedback. It was a pleasure working with Kerry. 17.01.2022 Today as South Australians settle into Day 1 of a six-day lockdown, following an outbreak of COVID-19, I am thinking of those frontline workers who continue to serve us with dedication and passion. Whether it’s the healthcare professionals, the police or those working in supermarkets to keep us supplied with food (and toilet paper), I say thank you. It’s strange times and I know I’m feeling a little unsure of what’s to come, but I also know we live in a great state and ...we have committed essential workers taking care of the most vulnerable amongst us. We’ve got this South Australia. #southaustralia #covidleadership

16.01.2022 I hear many people tell me that they avoid networking events because they don't think others would want to hear what they have to say, they feel nervous approaching strangers and don't know how to start conversations. This week is the SA Woman Summit and Awards Dinner which I am attending as a new member. I wrote this blog 'Seven easy tips to feel empowered when networking' to support my fellow members of SA Woman so that everybody has a chance to shine at these events.

14.01.2022 Is 2021 the year to end your public speaking fear? The National Social Anxiety Centre reports that public speaking anxiety, or glossophobia, affects about 73% of the population. The underlying fear is judgment or negative evaluation by others. My clients often tell me that they wish they had sought help long ago, but they kept putting it off because it was a natural reaction to avoid their fear. What they didn’t know was that avoiding your fear actually feeds the fear.... Read my latest blog post to learn more about what causes this fear and learn how to regain your power and find your voice. https://rb.gy/nzowhc #completecommunicationcoach #YouDeserveToBeHeard #fearofpublicspeaking #confidentcommunication

I now feel excited to speak at assemblies and project my ideas. Got so much out of... this session and would definitely recommend. Taking this workshop has changed my public speaking performance. 10.01.2022 SATURDAY’S WORKSHOP WAS A HUGE SUCCESS The "Essential Public Speaker's Toolkit" provided tools and strategies for feeling more confident and comfortable when communicating in a variety of situations. This is exactly what our inspiring participants did by volunteering to speak on camera so they could recommend the workshop to others. 10.01.2022 The Covid19 pandemic means that suddenly many of us need to communicate on camera but without any training on how to do it effectively. I hope my tips help you to feel more confident. Building relationships online is really important for business and personal connections.

09.01.2022 TODAY'S PUBLIC SPEAKING TIP FROM KERRY: Say ‘yes’ to opportunities for putting yourself out of your comfort zone. I was recently asked at very short notice to appear on a radio station to talk about the benefits of evaluations in Toastmasters and my recent win at an Australian contest. I have never been on radio and didn’t know what to expect, but I am passionate about the topic, so I decided to challenge myself and say ‘Yes’ to the opportunity.... It was a huge amount of fun. It made me realise that my coaching business and Toastmaster experiences have allowed me to develop my impromptu speaking and presentation skills considerably through regular exposure to new situations. The more you say yes to opportunities for public speaking, the more you will develop confidence and feel comfortable when communicating.

09.01.2022 I cannot recommend Kerry enough. She has been helping me dramatically increase my confidence and find my voice. As an introvert, I've found her to be a very eas...y person to talk to and a very good and insightful listener. Always seeing the upside to my challenges and proposing clever strategies to build upon my strengths. It’s been really great to have regular sessions so that we can practice together, check up regularly on progress (and thanks to her I’m happy to say I’ve made some!), evaluate what strategies have worked or not and keep me on an upward trajectory. 06.01.2022 3 TIPS ON HOW TO NAIL IMPROMPTU SPEAKING I was reminded at Thursday night's impromptu speaking contest of some important strategies for communicating on your feet. 1. No need to answer immediately. Pause to think about your answer. 2. Move around the stage with purpose to keep your mind and body agile; a strategy for controlling nerves. 3. Stand and walk with a strong upright posture to look and feel confident.... #publicspeaking #communication #publicspeakingcoaching #leadershipdevelopment #engagingaudiences #mindset #impromptuspeaking #communicateconfidently #conquernerves #fearofpublicspeaking #QandA #offthecuff See more

05.01.2022 Kerry Pienaar helps young women to have their voices heard Recently I was very privileged to provide a workshop at Parliament House for a group of 14-24 year old SA women participating in 'Girls Takeover Parliament' - an initiative whereby young women are mentored by politicians to empower them to share their opinions, take on leadership roles and to inspire more women to enter politics. 2019 is the first year that the #GirlsTakeoverParliament program run by #JasiriAustralia... has been taken to other states; and SA is the first state to participate out of Canberra. I taught them how to make an effective first impression and how to pitch themselves, their beliefs and goals with passion and confidence. It was fun and rewarding to play a part in this program. #publicspeaking #conqueringyourfears #feelingempowered #confidentcommunication See more

02.01.2022 HAVE YOU EVER FELT THAT YOUR VOICE IS NOT HEARD? Today’s public speaking tip from Kerry influence through stories! Have you ever been in a meeting where your colleagues don’t seem to value your ideas? Have you ever had to pitch a product but your client doesn’t seem engaged? ... Have you ever avoided giving your opinion because you don’t feel listened to? Have you ever feared being ridiculed for sharing your ideas and opinions? Many people share similar frustrations and fears. It may be comforting to know that you are not alone, but even more comforting to know that you can learn to influence others to engage with you and to truly hear your voice through stories. WHY? -People can relate to stories -Stories evoke an emotional response, which influence people to listen and to act -Stories are memorable -Stories show your vulnerability and influence your audience to be vulnerable right back at you -Stories help audiences to understand your message -Stories are much more fun and interesting for audiences than facts and figures. TELLING A STORY THAT IS RELEVANT TO YOUR MESSAGE IS A FUN AND CREATIVE WAY TO COMMUNICATE !!!
