So many people don’t understand how credit scores work and it's not until they go to borrow money they find out they have had a negative impact on their overall score for some reason. It might be as simple as slow credit card payments or being behind on their car loan or applying for balance transfers regularly on credit cards or over applying for money in general. They all impact adversely.... I had a young man who when he came to me had already smashed a perfectly good score to under 50.0 Once your score gets that low. you can’t even get personal loans at higher rates. How it happened and why it's so important not to over apply for money is he was trying to get finance for a 20 year old ute and he was going direct to the financiers. Initially he was getting approved until they found out the age, make and model of the vehicle It was a highly modified ute with $20,000 worth of extras. But he had already hit his credit file with the application. It overbooked and was too old ............so he went somewhere else and somewhere else and somewhere else and so on. They all said yes, until he told them what it was for an older highly modified ute. In the meantime he had applied for 6 loans in 10 days and he went from being an 800 score (good risk) to less than 500 (bad risk) and he hadn’t even borrowed money, ever!
