22.01.2022 Most of us know that sugary drinks are bad for us in general and especially bad for our teeth but not everyone knows why. Simply put sugar is a food source for dental bacteria. These bacteria feed off the sugar in our food and drinks produce acid as a biproduct. This acid then causes tooth erosion. ... Not only are many soft drinks high in sugar but they are also acidic themselves so its like a double acid attack on our teeth. You can reduce the risk of tooth erosion in the following ways: Dont drink or eat sugary drinks and food or if you just cant resist the temptation then reduce your consumption. When you do drink sugary drinks, use a straw so teeth have less direct exposure. Dont sip a sugary drink over a long period of time (This increases the exposure time to your teeth). Drink water after having something sugary to rinse and dilute the amount of sugar available to the bacteria. Use a toothpaste with fluoride and dont brush straight after having acidic or sugary drink/snack. See more

17.01.2022 It is one of our patients most frequently asked questions ... "is coffee damaging my teeth?". We all know coffee stains teeth, but the presence of stains does not mean damage. These superficial stains are easily removed by your dentist. As long as the coffee is unsweetened (no sugar) it will not cause tooth decay and some research has shown that hot coffee can decrease the bacteria that cause decay. ... Its not all good news though. If you have coffee without milk, it is acidic and can erode your enamel, potentially making your teeth more sensitive. But this can be neutralised by simply adding milk. So enjoy your coffee, but see your dentist twice a year for your routine check ups and cleaning.

14.01.2022 Did you know that nearly half the surface area of your teeth lies between them? That means that if youre solely relying on brushing you are not cleaning a la...rge portion of your teeth!!! By removing the plaque from between your teeth, youre helping to prevent gum disease, tooth decay and halitosis, otherwise known as bad breath. ums, and not some kind of good to have added extra. 04.01.2022 Do diet soft drinks damage your teeth? You may be surprised to know that ALL types of soft drinks, including diet ones, can cause irreversible damage to your teeth. They all contain citric acid which causes softening and erosion of teeth, making them vulnerable to tooth decay, sensitivity, discolouration and cracking. Our advice: - Cut down on soft drink and drink more water, - Drink through a straw,... - Chew sugar free gum or rinse mouth with water after drinking your soft drink See more
