25.01.2022 Times are a-changing at Complete Scar Therapy! From July 1st, we will become a purely home visiting service. We are really excited to be able to offer this to our patients, and hopefully make our service even more accessible than ever. This means we will be closing our doors at our Vic Park clinic, which has not been an easy decision. We've had such an amazing time there, and we are so grateful to @archerstphysio for having us there!... What does this mean for you? Well, you'll still get the same service, treatment and advice, but you'll be getting it in your own home. Leave your UGGs on and don't worry about finding the car keys/getting stuck in traffic - we'll come to you. Any questions? Hit us up at [email protected] Looking forward to the next part of our adventure!
24.01.2022 OUCH! Did you know that the time it takes for a wound to heal has a big impact on long term scarring outcomes? Any skin injury that takes longer than 2 weeks to fully heal leaves you at risk of developing adverse scarring. This includes accidental injuries, such as cuts, burns and grazes, as well as surgical incisions. As with all scar management, early intervention is key, and we can start our treatment while you still have a wound.... www.completescartherapy.com for more info . . . . . . #scarmassage #scartreament #scarprevention #scarminimisation #bestscaroutcomes #occupationaltherapy #completescartherapy #earlyintervention

17.01.2022 WEEEEE'RE BACK! . Ok truth be told we've been back up and running for a bit now, but things have been changing so rapidly in the background over here at CST so we've been waiting for some more clarity prior to posting. We're still not quite there yet, but here's what you need to know: **YES! We are still home visiting on certain days. Please check our website for availability, pricing, catchment details etc... **YES! It's true - we are now also operating out of some fairly swanky rooms in Mt Lawley too, website for days and availability . . But wait - there's more. Change is afoot, stay tuned for more announcements about some further rooms, Tyler's current study plans and our service expanding in about a million directions. Ok, maybe just two directions but it's exciting all the same! . . For more information, head to www.completescartherapy.com.au or shoot us an email at [email protected] . . Jess and Tyler See more
16.01.2022 It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing a temporary closure for all of our services here at Complete Scar Therapy. This closure will be for an initial period of 2 weeks, but will be subject to extension. This is not a decision we have made lightly. However, in light of the rapidly increasing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 around Australia, we cannot in good conscience continue our hands on services for the time being. Here in Western Australia we have been given... the wonderful gift of isolation, which has brought us the even more wonderful gift of time. We've seen the huge impact of this virus around the world and we both feel that we have a chance to alter the trajectory and flatten the curve by changing our actions. As health professionals, we need to be taking this seriously, and we are taking this step in support of our colleagues at the frontline in the hospitals, who are already feeling the heaviness of the load that is about to increase exponentially. Times are crazy. Take care of each other, support small business, STAY HOME, and for goodness sake share your loo roll. We'll see you on the flip side Western Australia!

13.01.2022 Here are some tips to manage your scar following a C Section: - Allow the wound to heal on the surface - your wound is healed when you no longer require a dressing - Once the wound has healed, start gently massaging your scar twice a day in circular motions. We recommend using plain, unscented sorbelene cream to give your newly healed skin the moisture it needs - Work your way up to firm pressure, as this will help soften and flatten any scar tissue that's forming. Remember ...your C Section scarring goes much deeper than what you can see on the surface, and your doctor won't have made all the incisions in a straight line. It is a good idea to massage firmly 2-3cm above and below your surface scar to loosen any adhesions, or stuck scar tissue, below the surface. It's normal for your scar to feel a little sensitive, or a little numb on the surrounding skin. It's not normal for this sensitivity to be painful, or for it to worsen over time. Scarring is a complex process and depending on risk factors, massage is sometimes simply not enough to achieve a flat, pale and painless scar - which is where we come in! Get in touch if you have a scar that's bothering you and would like further information on how we can help www.completescartherapy.com.au [email protected]

12.01.2022 It's about so much more than appearance with scarring. When we met this lovely patient she'd recently had surgery leaving her with a raised, lumpy, very red and extremely sensitive scar on her neck. She couldn't touch it, or wear her hair down, or wear a nice necklace - even showering was causing her pain as the water hit her scar. She also had tightness and pain turning her neck or bending her head forward. Fast forward to today, after 4 months of treatment: absolutely no t...ightness on moving, no sensitivity - she's able to shower in peace, wear her hair however she wants. The scar is still pink but it's gloriously flat and soft, and the colour will fade over time. This is why we what we do! Don't underestimate how much a little scar can impact your life. #nonsurgicalscartreatment #stratadermgel #jobsatisfaction #happypatients #completescartherapy #occupationaltherapy
10.01.2022 GARDENING GLOVES! OK - hands up who knows why I have this in my CST clinic room and home visiting bag? . (And no, gardening is not one of our current services here at Complete Scar Therapy!) .... . #scartherapy #occupationaltherapy #gardeninggloves #mondaytrivia See more
10.01.2022 Collagen! It's everywhere. You can rub it into your crows feet, inject it into your forehead, even drink it to chase away those fine lines! . The one place we don't want more collagen? In our scars. The production of collagen during the healing process is actually quite important, but the purpose of these collagen fibres is to heal a wound and close over the opening in our skin, so they form in all sorts of messy, criss-crossed patterns whereas the collagen in our normal skin... lies flat. Sometimes, the body doesn't get the message to switch off production of these magical healing fibres and it just keeps going and going. . The result? Layers of knotty, messy, built up collagen fibres, aka a nasty surface scar! . So what can we do? 1. Start massaging your scar firmly once your skin has fully healed (this is when you have no more dressings). This helps to encourage those forming collagen fibres to lay down flat rather than building up. 2. If your scar is over a joint, make sure you are doing regular stretches to stop the scar tissue thickening and limiting your joint movement. 3. Sometimes what you can do at home is not enough to prevent your scar from developing into something you're not happy with - If you're worried, call us at Complete Scar Therapy for a full review and treatment plan www.completescartherapy.com . . . . . #scarmassage #completescartherapy #simpletips #scarmanagementtips #occupationaltherapy
10.01.2022 Recovering from any major surgery is a big deal, but recovering from a C Section is very unique experience. Not only do you need to take the time to let your body rest and heal after major abdominal surgery, but you also have the demands and pressure of a newborn depending on you! I hear you, mama - it's tough!! . . Let's talk a little bit about the phases of recovery and wound healing following a C Section, and what you can do in each phase to take a little extra care of you...rself. There are three different phases of wound healing: inflammation, proliferation and remodeling. In this post we'll talk about the first phase. . . . WEEK ONE: this is known as the "inflammatory" phase of healing and generally lasts up a week. Your body is in overdrive bringing extra fluid to the area and removing dead cells. This is really important to help reduce your risk of infection and speed up your healing time. You can expect to be swollen from this extra fluid, this is normal and your body is doing its job. YOU NEED TO: Take it easy. I know, it's hard! Ask for help, get someone to bring your baby to you for feeds. Imagine you've just had a knee replacement, or a broken ankle set - would you be attempting to run 10km on day 2? We expect so much of our post C Section bodies, and it's important to really appreciate just how much your body has been through. Concentrate on hydration and good nutrition to help your body do its job. This is a time to really rest, and your body will thank you for it in the long term. DID YOU KNOW: that protein in your diet can help your body to heal a wound? Try to incorporate healthy proteins into your meals as you recover from your C-section to give your body the best chance at healing quickly. . . Stay tuned for Phase 2! . . . . #scareducation #csectionscar #csectionrecovery #csectionmamas #occupationaltherapy #scarring #woundhealing See more
09.01.2022 The joys of scar management in your own home! They wanted to glue my little boy's face after this nasty bump and I said no thank you - I've treated him with daily stratamed application and some massage once he was healed. No one can believe how quickly the wound has healed up, which means he'll thankfully be left with little to no scar #bringingworkhome #scarmanagement #headbump #stratamed @stratpharma_australia
09.01.2022 Working in scar management, we get asked ALL the time, "what's the best cream/gel/ointment/essential oil/magical online cure that promises to erase everything on your skin...but the truth? . . . ........There is no product backed up by actual legitimate research that you can apply to your scar that will make it improve or go away (actually...this is not strictly true, but more on that in a tick).... . Scar tissue needs to be broken down and remodelled manually using things like massage and compression. If you've used bio oil, Coco butter, frankincense oil on your scar and it's improved, chances are that a) it was going to improve anyway (let's face it, most of us heal pretty nicely) or b) you've been rubbing that very expensive lotion or potion into your scar, and it's the massage itself that's helped. . There is ONE, and only ONE product that we do recommend using topically as part of the rest of your scar management regime, and that's silicone. Silicone has, in fact, been clinically proven to have a postitive impact on scar outcomes when used in the right way. The right type of silicone (gel, patch, putty, tape) for you depends on so many things and needs to be prescribed by a professional for best results. It's also not to be used INSTEAD OF scar massage, it's just another tool in the tool bag. . So if you really want to keep forking out for your expensive scar treatment products, go for gold but please, for the love of all things scar, massage it in! Or pop down to your local Coles/Woolies for a giant tub of sorbelene that's going to have the same effect. . #scartips #scarmassage #stratadermgel #completescartherapy #occupationaltherapy See more

01.01.2022 Had a fabulous time today with Taryn Watson - the Women's Health Physio mastermind behind the fabulous @fitrightphysio . . Taryn and I met when we were 3 years old at tiny tots ballet classes She's one of my oldest and dearest friends. We spent a lot of our childhood playing "grown ups" together so it's pretty incredible to be working alongside her now, as an actual grown up. .... . The theme for the FitRight Facebook members group this month is C Section recovery, so Taryn interviewed me this afternoon on the recovery process after a C Section in terms of scarring. I'll be doing some posts on C Section recovery from our perspective at CST over the next little while! . . #csectionrecovery #cst #csectionscar #scarmassage #scarmanagement #occupationaltherapy #womenshealth See more
