24.01.2022 Did you know: We talk faster than we type; therefore the accepted norm is that we speak four times faster than a person can actually type and we speak seven times faster than we write. Transcription typically takes between three to four times the audio file length. For example, 10 minutes of good quality audio should take approximately 30 to 40 mins to transcribe. Although, many factors can affect the speed of transcription, for example poor audio quality, speakers’ accents, how many speakers (eg conference/meetings) and background noise.

15.01.2022 MYTH: Manual transcription can be easily replaced with dictation software. With today’s technology, it may seem some Apps and software could replace transcription jobs. With voice to text software we could be fooled into thinking that these Apps and software could replace a human transcriptionist. This is not true. Transcription requires great precision. No software can accurately transcribe interviews without the need for manual review. Speech recognition technology si...mply has not gotten to the point where it can surpass the accuracy a good transcriptionist. Many industry specific words are not included in any of the voice to text software, and forms and documents cannot be completed with the ease and accuracy that a human transcriptionist can complete. Voice recognition technology cannot recognise tasks that involve simple or complex formatting, and if you have multiple speakers (in the case of interviews), then it is almost impossible to get a good transcript. Sorry 21st Century - technology just isn’t as accurate as human transcriptionistsjust because a computer can do something doesn’t mean that it should.

13.01.2022 Meet our other full time typist: Sonia Lang Sonia started work when she was 17 (1977 in Sydney) at Waltons Insurance as a Receptionist and then after a year became Secretary to the National Sales Manager stayed there for 3 years. Employed at Howarths Accountants for 2 years as a Secretary to the Tax Partner.... Travelled overseas to Europe for about 2 years and while there started temping in law firms doing Dictaphone typing. Upon returning to Australia did some temping and then in 1987 got the job at Lamrocks Solicitors in Penrith as a word processing operator/Dictaphone typist. While at Lamrocks I had the following jobs: -Word processing operator/Dictaphone typist. -Accounts (temporary basis only holiday fill in) -Secretary to solicitor in family law team -Secretary to Managing Partner (Dillon Family Law) -IT Manager / Project Manager / IT Help Desk - 4 major hardware and software upgrades for the firm, including training of staff after update. In early 2007 I left Lamrocks and went to work at Roche Diagnostics as an IT Help Desk Analyst Level II. Stayed there for nearly 2 years. This included training staff in using their laptops and IP Phones. I returned to Lamrocks early 2009 and was secretary to the personal injury partner and IT Manager I project managed the latest large hardware and software upgrade during this time. Started with Complete Secretarial in 2011. Attended courses for the following: -Microsoft Office programs -Trained in coding for legal precedents in Hotdocs software for Lawdocs legal software. -LEAP Legal Software -Open Practice Accounting System and Administration -VOIP phone system (Cisco and Avaya) -IT Help Desk Course
