24.01.2022 STREAM: Six simple steps for mental health S is for Social networking We have so many options to keep in touch with people. Skype or facetime for example. Emails. If your grandma doesn't know how to then ring them on a video call or even just a normal phone call. They'll answer the phone. Social media is great for showing ways of connecting. Some ideas I have personally seen:... 1. Green paper in the window, im ok Yellow - Im low on supplies and may need help Red - Assistance required/Emergency 2. Teddy Bears in the windows to count how many you see T is for Time Out Remember to take some time out, just for yourself. Go sit on the driveway and watch the sunset. Lock yourself in the bathroom (plenty of mums and dads have done this over the years, I'm sure) R is for Relaxation, Mindfulness, meditation or yoga strategies. Managing anxiety can be helped by using a variety of relaxation strategies. Sometimes just putting on your favourite song and singing along works just as good. Or try the 54321 technique (message me if you need more info) E is for Exercise and Entertainment *Go for a walk, run, bike ride. Get those endorphins happening. It even doesn't have to be far to start with. Try a free online pilates or something you are interested in. *Keep yourself entertained by reading, streaming services, digital or board games, hobbies, or playing music. Bust out that old yo-yo, challenge the kids to mario cart... get some dice and play Yahtzee. Play blackjack for sultanas. A is for Alternative thinking Uncertainty and novelty will lead to heightened tension and stress. Question yourself if youre becoming angry - why? Is it fear-based? What's the likelihood of that fear becoming real? What is the reality of it? Is your response reasonable? Are there better ways to manage your underlying motivations? Think things through to find a resolution, or talk to someone else, such as a friend or a counsellor. Much of what we experience is based on more than objective experiences. Its also our perception of what happens, our attitudes or beliefs, and how we regulate our emotions. Learn and look for other ways to think and process differently. M is for being Mindful of others Remember, this is just a short-term situation that we can all get through if we work together. Australian culture is we pull together and help each other. No one gets left behind after fires, floods and other times of need. And remember if it all gets too much, step away from what's triggering you and seek help. 19.01.2022 Writing reports and getting the back-end work done. Even I practise what I preach and make sure I do the ugh work in a great spot to make it a more positive enjoyable experience. So next time you have to do something that leaves you feeling blergh make it fun; do it somewhere pleasant or listen to some great happy music beforehand and then focus on the task, only stopping as many times as you need to - to reboot the happy music - and work your way through it. ... We all have thoughts right? Those thoughts create pictures. As far as our subconscious is concerned, they are real - it really happened. It doesn't know the difference.... 11.01.2022 Something as simple as writing 3 things you are grateful for every day helps create new thinking patterns and anchors. As you think about what you are grateful for, you will have feelings of being grateful. Once that happens, its much easier to recall positive feelings if you feel down. Doing this in a journal or diary gives you something to go back to when you have moments of overwhelm.

The theory behind it is the picture we are most scared of is the one that represents the part of ourselves that we repress. Our subconscious recognised it and thats why it makes us uneasy.

03.01.2022 This has come up a few times this week with clients. **Be consistent - otherwise, the people around you are constantly calibrating their behaviour based on the information you give them. **Be clear with what you want. ... That way everyone around you knows what is ok and what is not ok. (and it stops feelings of resentment, anger, walking on eggshells, feelings of being bad or wrong, low sense of self and stops people being negatively anchored to you). **Be aware and responsible of how you give feedback. If you give someone feedback (like a child, colleague, loved one) be aware that the feedback you give may change depending on what you are doing and where you are at. **Check in before you offload. They may not be in a good space to receive.
