12.01.2022 Composting Tip #4 Ants are one of the world's greatest earth movers and can actually be helpful in the composting process. They encourage fungi and other creatures into the pile and can make the compost rich in phosphorus and potassium. However if you find you are overrun by the critters, try sprinkling turmeric around your composter to deter them and remember to keep your compost pile moist.... #compostingtips #compostapak #composting #plasticfreebags

10.01.2022 Composting Tip #5 Orange and other citrus peels are ok to put into your compost pile but in moderation. However if you find you eat bucket loads of oranges like at our house, there are so many other amazing uses for all those peels! One of our favourites is a very simple, natural cleaner. Collect the rinds in a jar and add vinegar so that the rinds are completely covered. Pop the lid on and let it sit for a few days in a warm position. The citrus oil will leach out into the v...inegar. After a few days simply strain the vinegar and you're ready to go! Perfect for cutting through that stubborn bathroom grime! #compostingtips #compostapak

03.01.2022 Composting Tip #6 If your compost looks too wet and is a bit smelly, this is an indication that something in the balance of your pile is off. Remember that as a general rule the ideal ratio is 25-30 parts carbon (browns) to 1 part nitrogen (greens). Try adding some more dry brown items to absorb the moisture and aerate more often. #compostingtips #compostingisfun #compostapak #zerowaste #plasticfreebags
