09.01.2022 Today, we celebrate World Food Day, with this years theme being close to our hearts: Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. What does this mean? Global solidarity. A joint effort to build resilient, affordable and sustainable food systems. As a community of over 62,031 composting households, we are contributing to less waste, reducing GHG emissions and building healthy local ecosystems. Together, as consumers, we are supporting a better food system. ... Many Revolutionaries are also using compost and castings to grow their own food. This is not only good for you and the environment but can be shared with neighbours, friends and family - cultivating a local food community. Thank you to all composters. To backyard, balcony and windowsill growers. To those making changes, small and large, for a better food future. And importantly, to all of our #FoodHeroes, who provide food to all the planet's population. #WorldFoodDay https://youtu.be/KQZFqakBw04

05.01.2022 Congratulations @itsaimeecraig, our October social media competition winner who has won $100 worth of gardening gear! Check out her video and lovely story below. It is great to have you onboard the Revolution Aimee! During Melbourne’s COVID lockdown I thought I’d pick up gardening and learn to be more sustainable. It’s been the biggest learning adventure that I’ve enjoyed so much! I built myself planter boxes, a green house and now have an array of veggies and herbs I use ...daily! I wanted to delve a little deeper into being sustainable and helping my plants grow even more so I got into worm farming. It’s been the best bonding activity for my family and I, and has really helped me through lockdownI’m so happy I’ve joined the Compost Revolution! -- Will you be our next winner? To enter, either send us a photo of you with your newly purchased Compost Revolution composting system, or post on socials and tag us with #compostrevolution - and tell us a bit about why you've joined the Revolution - it's that easy! 04.01.2022 | COMPOST 'SURPRISES' | Amongst the zucchinis, a little pumpkin seedling has popped up from this compost-soil mix. After a few weeks of guessing its source, we have traced it back to a hearty, pumpkin soup eaten earlier in the year! These veggie patch 'surprises' are always an exciting find. They are often hardier seeds, particularly from the curcubit family. While unexpected, they provide a tasty reflection of the cycle of life...a reward for your time and commitment, spent... lovingly tending to your compost. Have you had any compost surprises? Pumpkins, cucumber...maybe something else? . . . . . #compostrevolution #growyourown

03.01.2022 Like our furry friends, your compost needs a shake-up after rain To our Revolutionaries in Eastern Australia, make sure to aerate your compost and check-in on your worms after recent wet weather. If your compost is still wet and soggy after a week of regular aeration, mix in some browns to help absorb the excess moisture. Your compost should be as wet as a wrung-out sponge. Stay safe and happy composting!
