23.01.2022 New Gift Card laws are in force from today, 1st November 2019. https://consumerlaw.gov.au/new-gift-card-laws

22.01.2022 Ransomware is making a bigger comeback. This also affects macs. Last year a fake adobe flash update popped up on infected websites. Once clicked on the ransomware encrypts all files. (all your pictures, documents, backup files.) Normally it leaves a text file to contact the asshole responsible to get your files decrypted... (So you pay the person which ruined your week to only ruin a few days and empty your wallet.) This new variant also deletes all shadow copies, specifically attacks backup drives plugged in and even sits in a hiding spot to repeat the attack at a later date. A nice combination of the previous years worst viruses and trojans. These people obviously need the christmas bonus this year.

21.01.2022 This encryption virus still floating around. If anything looks similar to this dont touch anything inside. Delete the email message.

21.01.2022 Windows 7 End of Life. This doesn't mean it will stop functioning. This only means, you cannot call microsoft for support if you have a problem (nobody ever does that anyway.) No more updates are being made for security patches and program updates. Office 365 will eventually stop working on it along with antivirus products. Internet explorer already has difficulty opening pages as they are requiring certain addons which IE doesn't have in-built. They replaced IE with Edge in ...windows 10. Still firefox, opera and chrome still work in windows 7. Those only recently stopped functioning properly in windows xp. Vista is still usable with firefox and opera, but Chrome just has a warning about using an out of date operating system. The same will happen with chrome in windows 7. So if you still use 7 happily. Don't panic about the message, its just a greedy multibillionaire company trying to make you upgrade to keep them as a multibillionaire company. See more

20.01.2022 As a mark of respect for the fallen and serving soldiers we will not be answering phones until after 1pm. Lest we forget.

16.01.2022 A warning to most people who are using Telstra mobile broadband and cant get to bank sites, send emails, receive emails from another carrier. Most of the 1.127.###.### ip addresses associated with Telstra mobile plans are blocked in the https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/ and need to be removed so you can use your phones to do banking.

16.01.2022 Telstra in their wisdom had setup certain users on outlook.com to give them more space, and had to use outlook.coms incoming and outgoing email settings. so [email protected] was setup through pop-mail.outlook.com when their normal setting was mail.bigpond.com. NOW.. they have began changing it back, and changed the incoming email setting to imap.telstra.com and for the moment mail.bigpond.com is still working. but all the pop or imap-mail.outlook.com settings having b...een turned off, and people who were on the outlook.com settings no longer are getting emails, but the account still exists and password, so people press send and recieve and get nothing. nothing was sent out in any detail, just that your services will change??? Brilliantly now people have to ring telstra (communications company that cant communicate very well) and have one of their wonderful clear speaking phone technicians talk them through changing their email settings and people have to remember their passwords again. 16.01.2022 I get asked often how to stop spam email, so i say put the word unsubscribe in the rules to send to the junk folder except if they are in the address book (so if you put some you want into your address book they will still come into the inbox.) but the easiest thing to do is if you dont want any spam is to say permanently delete all unsubscribe body text emails and never get spam ever again.

14.01.2022 Dont click on the green bit in an email looking like this. Unless you miss me and want to give me lots of money for recovery of your encrypted data.

14.01.2022 Encrypting Viruses are now doing more damage and still around. Previously moving remote ports to other numbers and making VPN connections to servers was a way to keep hackers out. Now they brute force past any windows based security. using other security products is also a hit and miss. Some guarantee they stop encrypting viruses but when you read their fine print its only the known viruses, not a new one created 2 days ago. Home computers which connect to work are vulnerabl...e too. if the hacker gets into a home computer and it has a secure connection to work, they get in while the connection is active or wait until it happens. then they deploy the nasty double encryption mass blanket virus. The recent variation encrypts all files, including exes meaning goodbye programs too. logs also erased. the windows VSS (volume shadowcopy service) is completely removed, which means previous copies of files are erased from PCs, all shared areas are searched and encrypted too on other workstation pcs and because they get into a secure connection using a home computer, they have access to everything that person is allowed to see. The most recent one which is using the CRYSIS virus as a base, double encrypts, changing all viewable/editable files to a .xjlt file, then encrypts again using a .ETH file with the email of the asshole that wants money to give your stuff back. normally the .xjlt file can be returned to normal using the avast decrypting crysis tool or kasperskys tool for the same thing. sometimes the virus doesnt complete encrypting and only changes once. NAS storage devices have an internal backup system which is fairly safe against these attacks, but it has to be switched on in the settings for the snapshot backups. Other backup devices which the hacked account can see are also hit. so the only advantage is a rotating backup which happens each day. See more

13.01.2022 Beware of scammers wanting to access your computer and bank accounts Scammers are increasingly catching out people by impersonating well-known businesses or the police so they can get access to computers and steal money or banking information. The ACCCs Scamwatch website has recorded a significant spike in these types of scams, known as remote access scams, with more than 8000 reports recorded in 2018 so far and losses totalling $4.4 million. ...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Email scams about banks still float around, sometimes they are lucky and actually get the right bank to the right email. Banks dont send emails unless its from a bank manager and they will never ask for information by email or link in the email to login. I dont think i need to warn people as most wouldnt trust it anyway. Still it can happen if someone is tired and checking emails at 3am.

12.01.2022 Fake Telstra NBN callers are at it again. Saying they are telstra. need to get into your computer to setup NBN. They seem convincing and try to tell the person it is important to let them in using Anydesk or teamviewer. They make you look at the event viewer in the computer to make you think there is problems = event viewer logs a 1 second internet drop out as an error. Dont let them in. They will try to empty your bank account once they guide you into your bank site to say they are purchasing the NBN or new telstra premium package.

10.01.2022 **Services have been restored.** We are aware of issues currently when accessing sites and email hosted on our platform, At this stage this appears to be a routing issue with major providers in AUS and not an issue directly with any of our hosting providers infrastructure. Our hosting provider is following up with service providers presently and trying to establish an ETA for restoration. Well provide updates as soon as we have any further information.

10.01.2022 Windows 10 May 2019 Update bug prevents the upgrade unless SD and USB devices are removed. Microsofts May 2019 Update currently exists in a sort of limbo. Its available to Windows Insiders, but hasnt reached official release status. This bug is easily fixed: Simply remove the SD card and/or USB storage, then proceed through the upgrade as usual via Windows Update. If you forget to the remove the USB or SD device, youll see a cryptic error message that explains that the PC cant be upgraded to Windows 10.

09.01.2022 If it works, dont try to fix it.

09.01.2022 Some Myob online services are currently down. Unable to log in at all.

09.01.2022 If anyone sees a notice that rowan atkinson is dead. Dont touch it. Scammer page which infects your computer.

08.01.2022 The next attempt to infect computers is now a bill. Im not with optus but chances are they will be trying to sent fake bills with the other isps. Dont touch anything inside these messages. Especially the print more details. Just delete the message.

08.01.2022 The next variant of the encrypto (or others similar) virus, now gets the previous copies of files on a hard drive. so cant data recovery the old stuff. Lately it has been sent out saying its an electricity bill from AGL and others. changes the background picture to the ransom note too.

08.01.2022 There is emails going around which display a previously used password in the subject. They claim they have access to your computer and seem convincing. The usual click here link in it to actually scam you for real is in it. DONT CLICK ON IT! They are getting an old password from a website they hacked. People sign up for stuff all the time and login using their email account and their regularly used password People tend to not change their passwords over time and only add t...he #@! or 123 on the end to get around the higher security needed. It does seem scary at first, but the email is an automated spam. Sure if someone wanted to, they could see the passwords and get into your woolworths account and order food but couldnt pay with your credit card. At this stage i dont know which site has been hacked to get the passwords from "it could be a dirty one" but nobody will admit that part. So just warning. Change your passwords over time. Dont use the same for every single site you sign up for. See more

08.01.2022 Happy Australia Day!!

05.01.2022 The ACCCs Scamwatch is urging all Australians who lost money to a scammer through Western Union from 2004 to 2017 to take action by 12 February to try to get it back. Western Union has agreed to pay a penalty of US$586 million to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) after admitting to aiding and abetting wire fraud. The DOJ is using this penalty to provide refunds to eligible people worldwide who were tricked into paying scammers via Western Union. Australian consumers can use an online form or apply by post to have the money they lost refunded by the DOJ. As this is a US-based action, the ACCC is unable to make claims on a consumers behalf or assist consumers with their claims.

04.01.2022 Its funny how many people are complaining about not finding torrents to download movies and tv shows anymore. and my answer is "ITS ILLEGAL" it was shut down because ITS ILLEGAL and now if you search for them, google, yahoo, and other search engines are flagging your internet connection. some sites ask you to sign up - which means your email address is now linked to illegal downloads, making it easier to fine you for downloading copyright material. games were already monitor...ed 3 years ago as they have specific signatures in their files which the game sales places like steam can see you are downloading or uploading them. now its happening with movies (granted not the cam in the cinema versions) and some tv shows because of certain markers hidden inside them. these things are being caught up and the pirates will be finding it too hard to keep up with being caught and shut down. And because the legal downloading or online watching of the same shows are getting cheaper and easier to access. it is going to be finally a win against the piracy. See more

04.01.2022 Closed ANZAC day. REFLECT and RESPECT Lest we forget

02.01.2022 The purpose of a backup is to have your important stuff in 2 places. Not just put everything on 1 external drive and leaving it there. buy 2 external drives, keep the same stuff on both.

01.01.2022 Landline services have been restored.
