17.01.2022 Are you a multitasker? Let's check. Our bodies are great at multitasking at a subconscious level. It helps us walk, breathe and talk at the same time. Without this ability, it would be hard to survive and make sure our heart keeps beating. Our conscious mind works differently, and multitasking in is a myth in the majority of instances.... Let's run a simple experiment. Take a piece of paper and a pen. Write the phrase: "I am a great multitasker". Below that white numbers from 1 to 30. How long did it take, 25-30 seconds? Now, let's try to multitask it. Start writing one character at a time per line, alternating them after each symbol. So it would look something like this: One first round: "I" "1" Second round: " I a" "1 2" You got the idea. How long does it take now? Our brains are much more productive when they are focused on one task at a time. Checking emails during the meeting or texting and driving? Think twice. One of the great techniques that help to boost personal productivity is called Pomodoro. The idea is simple you break your day into 20-25 minute slots and eliminate distractions during a single block. What techniques do you use to stay focused and productive?

03.01.2022 How tangible should results be? This question triggered by two conversations we had last week. We all heard that in business, our value propositions, our sales and marketing messages should contain tangible results. What does it mean? Dictionary.com gives us the following definitions of the term 'tangible':...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Bus, Yacht or ...? There is a common model widely used in leadership training. A bus. This model was introduced to the world by Jim Collins in 2001 and has been quoted quite often since then. The main idea of it is that the CEO (or company head with another title) is the bus driver and the company is the bus. Back then, it was kind of 'Why didn't I think of that?' idea and used everywhere. Just get right people on the bus. Team members got on and off the bus, and it seemed ma...nageable and predictable. However, this metaphor always appeared questionable. Can you get one thing, why are team members are passengers? Are they passively enjoying the ride while the driver is on duty? Later, we found another analogy that still appears legitimate to us. The Yacht. On the vessel captain is in the back, he or she can see the whole team and correct or direct their activities to reach the destination. The Yacht still needs to come to the ports to recharge and top up resources. Crew members get on and off. There is an ocean of opportunities to explore. There are some storms and some stills. Which model or analogy works better for you? Is it a bus, a yacht or something else? #leadership #business #managementconsulting

01.01.2022 How heavily does your business depend on certain people? Yes, some businesses are lucky to find geniuses that make things great, this is especially relevant with creative roles, but let's talk about usual roles. Lately, we came across a few companies that carry a high risk of complete operations shutdown if one or two people left.... This scenario is so popular among SME's where one person is responsible for multiple processes, and no one else knows how to do this. If processes are simple, the risk is not that high, but more complicated the operation, higher the risk. Why? Let's imagine, they won a lottery last night and sending you a text in the morning 'I resign' while boarding the plane to Hawai. What would happen to the business? Do you have a backup person who knows how to do that function? Do you have all steps documented so someone else can pick it up quickly? Are you ready to start looking for a new person? Review all processes and identify critical ones. Extract knowledge from people's minds and transfer to documentation. Have a back up for every critical function. Be ready to hire. #business #leadership
