20.01.2022 Towards the end of the 80s, a few years before the 1990 renovation and expansion, Concept Murray St got a bit of a makeover. Gra remembers that not everyone was as taken with his colour choice as he was. "We wanted to make a bit of an impact, which as it turns out, we most certainly did! 19.01.2022 July 1980. Here are some pics of the original Concept Music at 634 Murray St, shortly after opening. Graham knew he wanted somewhere central, and saw the Murray St site as he was driving around searching for somewhere to launch Concept. At the time he was earning around $30 a week working at Theos Music, and borrowed $10,000 from the bank to get up and running. "My entire range of acoustic guitars comprised of 13 guitars (compare that with todays stock of 200 plus!), 3 Rola...nd amplifiers... and a single, skinny palm tree! My total range of bass guitars was 3! of course, weve now got many more of them too! The only thing I have less of is hair." 17.01.2022 So, today is the last day of another Financial Year. Concept Musics 40th.. Wow... where did those years go?! And were feeling incredibly fortunate... business has been wonderful (yes, even better than last year so weve definitely been one of the lucky ones in these weird, unusual & slightly stressful times). In the past 12 months weve given away a heap of gear & prizes, run some amazing competitions, had a load of fun running some great in-store workshops & appearance...s, met a whole lot of wonderful new customers as well as enjoying the loyalty & pleasure of dealing with many, many old customers who have become more like friends over the years. Thank you. It is really has been a privilege. We cant wait for whats to come in the next 12 months... its going to be awesome! Our thoughts as we enter the next Financial year? 14.01.2022 Fender's Ultra Series Basses are versatile wonders! When we got hold of these long-awaited beauties we asked Shane McDonald to take us through them, which he was more than happy to do. That was a good few months back, but 2020 is as 2020 is, so it's taken us a while to get this video sorted. So, here it is (finally!) and luckily we've managed to make sure we have a few of these back in stock! A big thanks to Shane for such a thorough run through of such a versatile Bass. Than...ks also to his band The Saltations . 07.01.2022 Of all Grahams Collection, The Harley Davidson Prototype Strat is probably the display guitar we get asked about the most. Its the one on the far left of the first pic, with the red cables coming out of it, and can just be seen in the 3rd pic taken in 1993, if you look between Graham and Hank Marvin Music Officials heads! We asked Gra about his recollections of how it came about.... "Id set up a little stage in the expanded Murray street store, and whenever we had a product launch or a demo night, Id theme it in a way that suited the evening. We were able to get our hands on one of ONLY 3 Official Harley Davidson Strats that Fender were bringing into Australia, so I wanted to put something special together for the display. We had the actual Harley-Davidson of course, so I set about getting a mechanics bench together, and decided to make my own partcaster, as if it were the prototype for the actual guitar we were about to receive." Complete with security guards, and with Hank kind enough to be on hand for the unveiling, it was one of the most memorable moments of Concept in the 90s.
