25.01.2022 It's R U OK?Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say after R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK?... Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

23.01.2022 Sharing a book with a preschooler is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a great story, while helping develop their pre-reading skills. Children at this age learn best through play and experience, rather than formal instruction. https://www.facebook.com/671779369611197/posts/2810856012370178/?d=n

18.01.2022 I have said this many times already and this really verifies the commitment and passion that the Educators at K@P have. It also confirms that we do have the best families in the inner west and that they acknowledge and see the wonderful work the Educators do on a daily basis. Fran and I are the lucky ones! Maria

15.01.2022 Coronavirus COVID-19: this morning, Monday, 4 May, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr. Kerry Chant urged anyone with symptoms, even with the mildest of symptoms, to continue to come forward and get tested. In particular, she urges people in the City of Canada Bay to come forward for testing, as they are concerned by instances of unexplained community transmission. Click the below link to find your nearest COVID-19 testing clinic. This includes information on the Five Dock drive-...through clinic located at the Five Dock Leisure Centre car park: This also means that Educators at each of our services are advised to refuse entry of children that appear unwell or have a fever. Children can return once they have been tested and cleared (providing a clearance from a Doctor or NSW Health). Thank you for your cooperation. https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics

14.01.2022 Five Dock: the children made a beautiful Thank You card for all Health Care Workers at Concord Hospital. The card was hand delivered by a wonderful Mum and Doctor from our Five Dock service. Justine and her colleagues from the NSW Statewide Burns Unit at Concord Hospital love the card which will be displayed in the foyer at the hospital. The children enjoyed taking time to show their appreciation, not only for their parents, but for everyone working to get us through this. ..."Just saying thank you to anyone we can is a big thing," Said Miss Frances (Approved Provider). It is very important to all of us to have that connection to the greater community and letting them know that they are important to us all. When children express gratitude through making a card (in this example) boosts positive emotions and well-being for both the children and the recipients. And we need this during this time, added Miss Frances.

14.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all the fab mums at Kids@Play. Hope you had an amazing day!

13.01.2022 I had the pleasure of visiting Reggio Amelia Parramatta this week and I believe that networking, sharing and recommending services is important, even if it is in the same industry. Many of us relocate at times and rely on word of mouth or personal experience when looking for a new centre. For those that relocate, or have family/friends in the Parra region looking for a childcare service, I suggest this centre . https://m.facebook.com/reggioemiliaelc/

10.01.2022 Some heart warming feedback. Yet so tragic. As a parent, you can't control disasters or events in our world, but you can help your child cope when they do happen. The following tips provide ideas for helping your child feel safe, recognizing when your child is having trouble coping and being a good role model. ****Be honest with your child****... Your child will be aware that something has happened. Before answering questions, ask your child what they know and want to know. Give simple, honest answers, but also give comfort. You might say things like, "A few people made some bad decisions to hurt people," "It happened a long way from here" or "Most people are good." Listen to your child's feelings and concerns. It is important to be honest about your own fears and worries, but keep in mind that children need to know people can have strong feelings and still cope with hard situations. Encourage your child to ask questions at any time. Be aware of your child's feelings. It's OK if your child doesn't want to talk about it with you, but remain aware of changes in mood and how your child acts. Coach your child in setting limits with friends or others when talking about events. Some children may show what they're thinking through their pictures or their play. This can relieve stress, give you clues to their concerns and open the door for talking about their feelings. Each child responds in a unique way. Your child's response may change over time. Stick to routines As best as you can, keep on with regular activities, meal times and bedtimes. During stressful times, your child especially needs the safety and security that come with regular routines. Allow and expect your child to go back to behaviors they may have given up These may include being clingy or problems with potty training and thumb sucking for a young child. ****Just as important**** Use your family's values to reassure your child Point out that there are helpers and heroes who are working hard to make this situation better. Help your child understand what they can do to not feel helpless, such as raise money for relief efforts. If you have faith traditions and spiritual practices, use them for comfort. Just like this parent has done. Have a safe weekend.

03.01.2022 Croydon Park- With great sadness, we farewell Miss Monica as she has taken up an opportunity very much closer to home. Not often (ever actually), are we sad to see a very much irreplaceable Educator leave our service. This is one of those moments we wish we could relocate or open up another centre near a valued employee to maintain the professional and personal relationship we have with Miss Monica. ... Miss Monica has been an integral part of our senior team over the past 5 years. Her calmness, professionalism, reliability, and friendly manner will be missed. 02.01.2022 Child Protection Week Day 4 (Credit-Childcare Experts Robert Yammouni) It can be hard for parents and caregivers to know where to start when it comes to teaching children about personal safety. It can be particularly difficult when teaching them what to do if someone tries to touch them inappropriately. ... Armed with this knowledge, children will be better prepared to protect themselves if theyre ever in this scary situation. Explain to your child that there are 3 kinds of touches: 1. Safe touches These are touches that keep children safe and are good for them, and that make children feel cared for and important. Safe touches can include hugging, pats on the back, and an arm around the shoulder. Safe touches can also include touches that might hurt, such as removing a splinter. Explain to children that when you remove a splinter, youre doing so to keep them healthy, which makes it a safe touch. 2. Unsafe touches These are touches that hurt childrens bodies or feelings (for example, hitting, pushing, pinching, and kicking). Teach children that these kinds of touches are not okay. 3. Unwanted touches These are touches that might be safe but that a child doesnt want from that person or at that moment. Its okay for a child to say no to an unwanted touch, even if its from a familiar person. Help your children practice saying no in a strong, yet polite voice. This will help them learn to set personal boundaries. https://youtu.be/zNTUMNKSNwk
