21.01.2022 This Sundays stories come from Matthew chapter 13. They are the stories of the hidden treasure and the pearl of great price. Jesus talks here in story form to bring shape and reality to the abstract notion of the kingdom of heaven. He shows us that the kingdom of heaven is valuable and hidden and involves sacrifice.... Ideas that might seem strange at first, but make sense when we unpack them. https://youtu.be/J8xTqBMZyBM
21.01.2022 This week we start a new series, doing a Bible overview starting with creation. Can we still believe in the idea of creation as post-modern 21st century people? What was the point of creation?... Was suffering a part of Gods plan? Join us this Sunday at 10am as we take a peek at where it all began: https://youtu.be/g-QB8YHeps0
20.01.2022 This Sunday we're joined by David Starling from Morling College who will encourage us to think wisely about our lives as Christians in these times of Covid-19. What does the bible say about how we should live in light of this crisis? How should we think about ourselves, others, our future and the world around us? Tune in this Sunday at 10am to consider God's calling for you in this season. David will address not only what hinders our faith because of the present times, but the surprising opportunities it brings by challenging our worldly perspectives. https://youtu.be/vpmc4uaU9zc
20.01.2022 Have you ever seen someone behaving badly and felt compelled to call them out? This is exactly what happened between the Apostle Paul and the Apostle Peter. 20.01.2022 Today we acknowledge G. T. Rogers. George Thomas Rogers was the son of a Sydney businessman whose residence was in Homebush. He joined the Australian Imperial Force in September 1914, age 23. He was wounded twice during service at Gallipoli before dying in 1916 of wounds received while fighting at Pozieres in France. ... His father was secretary of Concord Baptist and lost two sons within a month at the same battle. Introducing a new student pastor to the church in 1919, he pointed to the honour board and said Speaking as a father who has lost two sons in the war no parent felt the sacrifice too great in such a cause. Such was the price one had to pay. http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/AutoSearch.asp

18.01.2022 Usually the way we've 'always done' things is more comfortable and familiar. Change is hard. New things are difficult and frustrating. Sometimes we think'if only I could go back to the way things were before.' Join us this week as we consider Paul's argument from Galatians 3:15-29 on why the new covenant is much better than the old. As we look at this passage Jake hopes we're also reminded just how good we've got it. 9:30am at church or on Zoom (email us for the link), or available on YouTube later in the day (subscribe to our channel so you don't miss out!).

17.01.2022 Can you remember back to the moment of your own conversion? Was it something that you "chose" to accept - or can you recognize the leading of God in drawing you to repentance and faith? And what of the Holy Spirit's presence in your life?... Did you choose to allow God into your heart - or did God appear to you and make Himself known? Join us tomorrow for a look at Galatians 3 at our first live preaching in a Sunday gathering since March. Also available via Zoom (contact us for the link) or via YouTube later in the day.
17.01.2022 This Sunday we are delighted to be having Greg Prosper bringing us a message from Gods Word. Greg is a full-time army chaplain and a long-time friend of Concord Baptist Church. Hes sharing EBT with us: extra blessing therapy! Paul wrote Ephesians from prison, most likely in Rome. He was isolated and separated from friends. How did he handle this time of separation?... Paul ponders his spiritual blessings. He praises God for every spiritual blessing. Physical, material blessing are not unimportant. But these spiritual blessings are already ours now as opposed to other physical blessings which come via prayer and Gods sovereign will. Trying to count the number of spiritual blessings mentioned in the 14 verses is like eating spaghetti: messy and tangled but very nourishing and yummy! Join us tomorrow! https://youtu.be/UM_AMI74j3Q
17.01.2022 Today we acknowledge E. Linklater. Based on his first initial and street address given, this could be Ernest Linklater, although the papers show a Church of England affiliation and enlistment in 1916 compared to 1915 on the honour board. Ernest Linklater joined the Australian Imperial Force in June 1916 and was a greaser who lived in Princess Avenue, Homebush. ... At some stage he worked as a driver in an artillery brigade, but did also have times in hospital due to an accidental wounding and various illnesses. http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/AutoSearch.asp

16.01.2022 Today we acknowledge Robert Pickup. Growing up in Auburn, he enlisted on the 18th August 1915 while he was a second year Theological student. He was recommended for a Military Cross on 9 April 1918. The citation for his Military Cross read in part as follows... During the afternoon of the 5th April 1918 the enemy put an extremely heavy barrage down on one of our isolated trenches. Lieut. Pickup crossed the open under heavy fire and by his personal example and determined action succeeded in restoring order and confidence. He then retuned under the same fire to his own post. With victory in sight, on 1 October 1918 Robert Pickup wrote a letter to the Executive Committee of the Baptist Union of NSW. His concern was how Baptist Churches throughout the state should receive returned servicemen. Part of his letter read as follows: " There have been many hard days during the last three years, but Gods kindness has been never failing. I hope you are getting ready for when the men get home. Men who have knocked around the battlefields for 3 or 4 years will not be won by poems or gruesome stories. There is only one thing that will appeal to these men when they get home, that is the plain gospel of the Saviour of men from sin. I am glad that our pulpits have stood for this. The church should get in first with a warm welcome make the boy feel he has been missed and that you are overjoyed to see him back. Make him feel at home straight away. God help you in all your preparations. Robert Pickup " He returned to Australia on 1 July 1919 and commenced in December 1919 as the first full time Pastor of Concord Baptist Church. http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/AutoSearch.asp
15.01.2022 Forgiveness. In theory, everyone loves the idea of forgiveness. When we make a mistake, we love it when other people are gracious and kind and forgive us straight away. Join us this Sunday as we explore again the central truths of the Christian faith: 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 07.01.2022 How often do you wonder if today is the day that Jesus will return? It has been some 2000 years since Jesus promised that he would go away and return again and understandably we might struggle to live with an imminent sense of Jesus return. 06.01.2022 The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is a story written against the greed of the Pharisees who loved money and refused to listen to Gods Words coming from the lips of Jesus. 01.01.2022 Hey Everyone. So on Sunday I spoke about Jesus words when he said No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Luke 16:13 NIV). There are lots of ways you can use your money to serve God and alleviate the suffering of others.
