18.01.2022 THE RETURN OF THE MUSICAL! All the very best to the team at The Very Popular Theatre Company for their opening night of CHESS: The Musical on Friday! ... This is the first musical to grace the stage of the Civic Theatre post-Covid. A significant achievement and one certainly to be celebrated. CHESS was due to open precisely two weeks after the lockdown was announced on that fateful Friday the 13th of March 2020. The production team has pulled off a truly remarkable "pivot" to bring the show back to the stage precisely 11 months later. Miraculously, almost the entire original cast has returned - including the two star leads. David Harris had to go through quarantine in Sydney over Christmas, after spending 2020 at home in New York City, and Silvie Paladino had to wait for Melbourne to complete its most recent lightening lockdown before flying up to join the phenomenal cast. Talk about a dramatic build up! Enjoy this sneak peek from yesterday's sitzprobe - just a taste of the amazing treat we are in for. If you haven't yet secured your ticket, don't wait. Fewer than 650 tickets in total remain across the four shows (best avails are for the Sunday matinee). Look forward to seeing you on the red carpet as we celebrate the return of the mega musical!
