20.01.2022 Pope appoints Bishop Mario Grech as General Secretary of the Synod of Bishops On Tuesday, Pope Francis accepts the resignation of Cardinal Baldisseri and appoints Bishop Mario Grech as General Secretary of the Synod of Bishops.By Vatican News 15 September, 2020... The Holy See Press Office noon-day bulletin on Wednesday contained the news that Pope Francis accepted on Tuesday the resignation of Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri from his position as the General Secretary of the Synod of Bishops. The same bulletin announced that the Pope is appointing Bishop Mario Grech, Bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Gozo in Malta, as his successor. Bishop Mario Grech served as the Bishop of Gozo, Malta, and on 2 October 2019, Pope Francis appointed him as Pro-Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops. Bishop Grech was born in Qala, Malta in 1957 and ordained a priest in 1984. Since his appointment as Pro-Secretary General, Bishop Grech has worked side by side with Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri. In this way, he has been gaining knowledge of the Synod of Bishop, how it functions, acquiring an understanding of processes its competencies. In that role, he participated in the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Amazon in October 2019. This synodal experience of having "walked side by side" with his predecessor has thus assured continuity within the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops. 05.01.2022 Another Church Desecrated: St Agatha's in Sicily A Catholic Church, Santa’Agata al Collegio in the Sicilian town of Caltanissetta was desecrated. The Most Holy Eucharist was thrown on the floor. Relics and images were desecrated. Dr Taylor Marshall reports. 1520 Pope Leo X Pope Leo X started the Papal Order of the Knights of St. Peter in 1520. This was also called the Board of Knights of St Peter. It would appear that the original non-Chivalric Order started in... 1471, was now turned into a new Chivalric Order by Pope Leo X. Thus, this was the first institute of an Honorary Chivalric Order. Records indicate that the Order of the Knights of St. Peter was made up of about 401 men by this time, chosen from among the best and most faithful collaborators of the Pope and of the Church. The Order of St. Peter and Paul , as a Chivalric Order, was conferred with service duties; it was given the task of managing the administrative affairs of the Apostolic Camera, and to ensure there was a body of knights to defend the safety of the person of the Pope and of hospitals, especially those used in time of war. Perhaps like Dr. Taylor Marshall said, the church needs security guards to protect it, something like Pope Leo X started in 1520. This saw publication in the Papal Chancellery on January 3, 1527. https://youtu.be/67Gy4604kmo
03.01.2022 Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul St. Spyridon the First Parish to run a Chapter of the Confraternity. Greek Orthodox and Catholic church merge in Puerto Rico... A lot of water has gone under the bridge since the East-West schism of 1054 that saw the separation of the ‘Roman’ Catholic church from the ‘Greek’ Orthodox one and if anyone needs proof of that, need not look any further than Puerto Rico. There, in Trujillo Alto, the Pan Orthodox Church of San Espiridion (St. Spyridon), built in the 1930s by missionaries from by the Archdiocese of Mexico of the Greek Orthodox Church in the diaspora, merged with the Catholic church to form a ‘Greco-Catholic Byzantine community’. Practically this meant a transition of authority from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople to the Archbishop of San Juan of Puerto Rico. The welcome ceremony was presided over by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese, Father Alberto Figueroa Morales on behalf of the Archbishop Latin Archbishop, Metropolitan Roberto González, who was commemorated along with Pope Francis. Despite being part of the Catholic church, the priests and parishioners will continue celebrating the Divine Liturgy and sacred mysteries according to the Byzantine tradition, and the continuous liturgy in the Church Slavonic language, English and Spanish. They will also keep following the old (Julian) calendar instead of the Gregorian one. Photo The Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese, Father Alberto Figueroa Morales and Archimandrite Fr.
