24.01.2022 A lovely snowy weekend! How was yours? We were able to get out for a play and a dingo walk in the snow. We checked out how the new enclosure fence held up (brilliantly!) and took a stroll down to big rock. Snow everywhere. 23.01.2022 The enclosure for little Aussie endangered animals is almost finished! . We have spent every spare moment of the last few months getting the enclosure ready. The fence is finished and the gates are ready to go on. The walking trail is being prepared and the finishing touches are put to the animal habitats. The feed preparation and cleaning room are complete. . As soon as the last tasks are done we will have a inspection from the licensing body and then we can receive the bett...ongs, bandicoots, potoroos and parma wallabies! . Not long now! See more

17.01.2022 Four Southern Brown Bandicoots (and another Rufous Bettong) were released into the Conmurra protected woodland enclosure last night! Despite the long journey from @mtrothwell to @conmurra, they were happy and healthy and started to settle in and explore their new home. Bandicoots have declined markedly in Australia recently due to ongoing habitat loss, fox and cat predation and the recent bushfires.... 14.01.2022 Final touches to the fox and cat proof fence. . We are nearing completion of the 2.4m high fence that will keep bettongs, potoroos and bandicoots safe in their near home here at Conmurra. Their main predators are introduced foxes and cats so we have built an innovative 'floppy top' fence which these feral animals cannot climb over. As restrictions have eased our Airbnb has become busy again but we hope that all the work will be finished in the next month or so. 06.01.2022 Wild weather at Conmurra. Following a very hot day, some of the strongest winds we have ever felt roared through the landscape early Sunday morning. Our biggest and oldest tree lost a massive branch measuring about 1m across and about 10m long. It smashed down on our front gate and railings. So before Sunday breakfast, we had to clear the road and move the branches away.... It was a shame to see this gorgeous tree lose a few nesting hollows, but we will put the hollow timber to use in our upcoming quoll enclosures. Extreme weather is becoming more frequent due to climate change. Trees stress and are less resilient in hot dry weather and they are more likely to drop limbs and break. #conmurra #sanctuary #nature #conservation #trees #wind #storm #climatechange
