25.01.2022 Happy new year everyone. Well, there's some exciting news for those of you that have smart homes installed by CMM. Netflix, one of the worlds largest suppliers of online TV/Movie content to due to start in March here in Australia. Netflix allows a consumer to watch TV and movies live from the internet. There are no ads and you can watch what you want, when you want for $10/month. This has been available for several years, but now anyone with a smart TV and reliable smart wir...ing network in their home can really take advantage of this technology. Some staggering stats from the US indicate that after 5pm in the US, 30% of all internet traffic is Netflix. This does not include all the other online content providers. 30% is just Netflix traffic. That's incredible! This means the beginning of the end for your local video store and Foxtel. Whilst they won't go down without a fight, I believe they are fighting a losing battle. Foxtel have already dramatically slashed the price of their monthly subscription prior to Netflix announcing there move into the Australian market. Foxtel know exactly whats coming. Initially the amount of movie and TV content will be limited, but as Netflix are now making there own content, for example the TV series house of cards. They will garnish more clout when bidding against the TV networks for blockbuster movies and TV series. Netflix will be in a much more powerful position to be able to dictate global availability of content to its consumers. This has far reaching implications. The Hollywood movie big wigs and others are now being left out of the loop. They will have less and less control as the take up for this tech begins to take off.
