Most daily living skills, like preparing food and taking care of our bodies, need to be completed on a regular basis to maintain a good level of health and safety but, for some people, health conditions or physical and cognitive disabilities often cause difficulties with performing some or all daily living tasks. 24.01.2022 Stuart In HIS own words A long term resident in Supported Independent Living with ConnectAbility and also attending activities through the day (twice weekly) Stuart felt he needed to share insights on how he views ConnectAbility. Stuart has recently sat on interview panels for new staff and showed surprising insight into what made a great worker from his perspective very helpful indeed for ConnectAblity who want to have staff that are customer focused and put customer cho...ice and control at the top of their mindsets. The Brenda that Stuart refers to (frequently) in the video is Brenda, our Senior Leader for our Supported Independent Living. Brenda has built a great relationship with Stuart over the years and he knows he can come and see her whenever he wishes as do many of our customers. We provide an open door policy for all customers so that any issues, feedback or stories can be shared. Thanks to Stuart for his input and continued support.

17.01.2022 Newcastle Emerging Art Prize - Entrant Dane Tobias On Friday night 16 October Dane Tobias along with other emerging artists from the area gathered at the Newcastle Art Space to hear the winners of the Emerging Art Prize for 2020. Dane Tobias one of ConnectAbilitys customers had been successful in having two works accepted into the event and was excited to show art teacher Susan Porteous and his mum Jan the works on display, one of which was sold prior to the opening of the e...vent. ConnectAbility are proud of Dane's achievement and how far he has come both as an artist and in the personal growth he has had as he makes his way in the community. It has been a tough year for many in 2020 and Dane and his family have had significant challenges. Dane credits art as being a way to deal with this "unprecedented" year. Overall winner on the night was Michael Richards for his painting "Tender 2020" Congratulations to Michael, other winners and all the artists who were able to showcase their work in this beautifully curated event. Great support from the Newcastle Community towards the artists. See more

10.01.2022 Jesmond Neighbourhood Centre - Food Bank - Just that extra bit of support Jesmond Neighbourhood Centre is supporting the local community by providing a Food Bank on Wednesday and Friday afternoons with the support of 2nd Bite (Coles Kotara), Food Bank, OzHarvest, and Sanitarium, who have been able to provide fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and other staple foods to members of the community in need. In the month of August 2020, 185 individuals, couples and families have come to... the Centre to access the food program. Thank you to our generous suppliers, volunteers and community for supporting others. Centre manager Kikki Tagaroulias said COVID has had a part to play in people needing that extra bit of support to get by. Kikki and her assistants are keen to see that no one goes without. See more

04.01.2022 Resident Artist at Edward Street SIL One of our customers is an artist. He loves to paint and will quite happily spend many hours making beautiful pieces to enjoy with the friends he lives with. He finds it especially peaceful and relaxing painting in the garden. It is great to be able to live your dreams. "It makes me feel better" is his response to why he loves painting. He becomes immersed in his work turning the world around him bright yellows, oranges, reds, purples, greens and blues. He revels in the world of creativity and imagination. His work gives him purpose and joy.
