16.01.2022 Attention & Concentration - what is "typical" and what isn't? Often, as adults, our expectations of a child's attention span is far too high. We set them up with an activity and expect that they will sit down and focus as a "mini-adult", which they simply cannot do. Research suggests that reasonable expectations of attention span is two to three minutes, per year of your child's age. ... - 2yrs: 4-6 minutes - 4yrs: 8-12 minutes - 6yrs: 12-18 minutes - 8yrs: 16-24 minutes You get the drift.... Every child will be different - its about knowing your child's limits, setting them up for success and using movement/break breaks (provided in previous posts) to reset the concentration period. Good luck! #ConnectedKids #OccupationalTherapy #Ballarat #AttentionSpan #Concentration #MovementBreaks
06.01.2022 Following on from yesterday's post, have a look below for some ideas you can use to incorporate movement breaks into your child's routine. - playdoh activities - stretching - yoga poses (Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube is )... - crunchy snacks or a drink - star-jumps - crab walks; bear crawls - activities that encourage crossing the midline It is always important that child is aware of why they are participating in the activity, and to set some ground rules around it too. Have fun & enjoy it together, and always finish off with a nice grounding, deep breath. #ConnectedKids #OccupationalTherapy #Ballarat #MovementBreaks #BrainBreaks #Regulation
