05.01.2022 Focus Exercise: Stiff-Legged Deadlifts This video was taken of a client with extremely tight hamstrings in an effort to promt him to perform the exercise with completely straight legs. Although he could not initially achieve optimum range, it sets him up to perform the exercise properly each time to improve that flexibility and see the extensive benefits of the movement. ... How to perform this exercise properly 1 When you first approach the bar, start with your feet about shoulder width apart and begin close to the bar so that your shins are almost touching it. 2 Pick up the bar with hinged hips, don't round your back to lift the bar up! Load your hamstrings and use your glutes to pick the bar up. 3 In a controlled, slow motion, lower the bar by hinging at your hips. Feel a good stretch in your hamstrings. Your back should remain straight for the entire movement and never round. What does this exercise do? The stiff-legged deadlift strengthens the adductors, hamstrings & gluteus maximus as well as the muscles of the lower, middle and upper back. Practically speaking - it'll improve your posture, lower back, hamstring and core strength, as well as your explosive power through hip extensions, leg strength and running capacity! #Connect #Health #Fitness #ExercisePhysiology #Exercise #HealthyLiving #Adventurous #HealthyTraveller #PainFree #KneePain #BackPain #PreventativeHealth #Travel #Wellness #Wellbeing #MentalHealth #ScenicRim #Hiking #StrengthTraining #InjuryPrevention #Fitness

04.01.2022 Have you ever tried these? What is it? Single leg barbell deadlift... What does it do? Single-leg deadlifts work all the major muscles it’s two-legged namesake does: the hamstrings, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, ankles, and the core. But while it challenges the same muscles, if you use lighter weights (or none at all), it puts far less stress on the spine. How do I do it? Stand with both feet under hips. Shift your weight to the right leg, which should be nice and straight with a soft bend in the knee. Begin to drive your left foot back like you're stamping the bottom of your foot on the wall behind you, keeping your leg straight. Simultaneously, slowly start hinging at the waist, tipping your torso forward until it’s almost parallel to the floor. Want to learn more? We're happy to help!
