24.01.2022 At Connecting2Australia (C2A), were all about the connection and creating opportunities so we were quick to open our doors to Josh Telford as part of AccessAbility Day. AccessAbility Day is a voluntary, obligation free day for employers (like C2A) to have an opportunity to see the potential jobseekers with disability can bring to the workplace and learn about available Government support. It is also a great opportunity for jobseekers with disability to experience a workplace... or role that aligns with their career interests. Josh, who is currently finishing his introductory course in Community Services at Advance Community College in a bid to kickstart his career working with youth, jumped at the chance to spend the day shadowing and being mentored by our Work Connections Coordinator Phil Trood who runs our School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) program. On Friday, Phil, Josh, facilitator Rob and nine participants enjoyed an excursion to Melbourne Museum with a picnic in Carlton Gardens. The purpose of the outing was to teach the participants to implement skills they have learned (independent travel training, independent living, budgeting, social and emotional interaction, money handling) as well as reward them with a great day out. Josh did really well on the day, demonstrating a really good balance of respect and openness with the participants, said Phil. As his confidence grew, he became more relaxed and interactive with everyone. I think he did really well and benefited from this firsthand experience within a work environment. C2As Disability Employment Service (DES) Coordinator Amanda Clifford, has been working closely with Josh over the past few months and was instrumental in helping him access the introductory course in Community Services. Josh is one young man who knows he wants to create a career path for himself that involves working with youth, Amanda said. Having him come in to C2A and spend the day learning from Phil and Rob was invaluable but thats what AccessAbility Day is all aboutbringing potential employers and jobseekers together. 24.01.2022 Connecting2Australia were excited to see a post from #Hugo Donuts on social media wanting to help a Community Organisation each month. Amy Dawson saw this as a great opportunity to mention our Frankston C2A photography group who would have loved the opportunity to purchase some new equipment. Whilst completing one of their projects they dropped into Hugos Donuts and introduced themselves and explained where we were from and that our biggest wish was to buy new cameras for our photography program. Avak, the owner of #Hugos Donuts was very warm and friendly and told us that C2A had won $200 and 12 Donuts! Avaks kindness and generosity meant so much and were so excited purchase new cameras. C2A Presented Avak with a certificate of Appreciation and are very thankful for his contribution to they organisation and photography group.

23.01.2022 The recent bushfires have devastated our wonderful wildlife and everyone wants to do their part to help. Aaron, one of our supported employees at Work Connections Seaford, came up with the idea to host a barbecue last week with everyone kicking in a gold coin donation in support of Wildlife Bushfire Appeal. Additionally, C2A is adding a special edition Wildlife Bushfire Appeal range of candles with 20% of proceeds from our "Gifts with a Conscience" range being donated. Well done to Aaron and everyone who dropped a coin...every little bit helps.

18.01.2022 22 days until Christmas and Chad from C2A's Community Connections in Traralgon is getting into the festive season (and don't those cookies look delicious).

17.01.2022 This year has been a tough one. Are you looking after your mental health? Why not try making a #MentalHealthPromise to yourself?

17.01.2022 It's November, and you know what that means...

17.01.2022 Thank you to our participants and employees! Small care packages have been distributed throughout the organisation to thank everyone at C2A for standing strong throughout these tough times to show our appreciation.

17.01.2022 C2A has expanded its supported employment offer with the recent acquisition of Creative Opportunities in Brunswick. Originally operated by The Salvation Army, Creative Opportunities is an Australian Disability Enterprise that specialises in timber product manufacture and design that proudly offers supported employment options for people with a disability. C2A is very pleased to announce from today, the business will now be known as Connecting2Australia Creative Opportunitie...s (or C2A Creative Opportunities for short). The values of caring, inclusion and diversity remain the same and its business as usual for the supported employees currently working there as well as their existing suppliers and customers. We have engaged the same employees, offered employment pathways to existing staff, and remain fully committed to the ongoing success and viability of the business. With C2As existing tagline of Creating Opportunities, it seemed an organic fit to now add Creative Opportunities to the 11 separate hubs we offer across Victoria. C2A is very excited to see what the future brings as we build on the solid foundation that currently exists. Plans are underway to design and develop a new e-commerce/marketplace website that will showcase a diverse catalogue of reclaimed and recycled timber furniture as well as wide range of homewares products all of which are created by C2A participants within their supported employment. Here were giving you a sneak preview of the shop logo. For furniture enquiries please contact Creative Opportunities on 9386 7611. For all other matters please contact C2A on 1300 111 212. #newopportunities #findingandkeepingajob #supportedemployment #workconnections #creatingopportunities #creativeopportunities #synergies #disability #brunswick

Our Community and Work Connection hubs and are still open; and our work crews are still engaged in a wide variety of work tasks such as assembly, production, recycling, screen printing and grounds maintenance. Were still helping communities in need, just as we have for the past 60 years. I would like to share with you one of the ways we are positively adapting to this unprecedented event. Our Bayswater team have swapped candle making to make hand sanitiser in the coronavirus fight, refocusing on the urgent public need for clean hands. Our aim at C2A through this crisis is to support our participants, our customers and the broader communities in which we operate, and to ensure C2A returns to full strength when we are through this. On behalf of all at C2A, we thank you for your ongoing support as we all continue to make the best of these trying times.

14.01.2022 Our Bayswater crew were lucky enough to team up with #Sage & Clare warehouse Pop-up Shop sale. The girls (and Brian) from Sage & Clare are always very welcoming and have become good friends of the Bayswater crew. We were invited to set up a small 'Pop-Up Shop' at their warehouse sale, the stall was managed by Bradley who is our guru salesman. It was super successful with plenty of lovely Sage & Clare customers stopping by and making a purchase or two! A big thank you to #Sage & Clare for the invite !!

14.01.2022 Community Connections Frankston's Photography Group took the "Elf on a Shelf" to new creative heights in the lead up to Christmas, creating their own range of Elf Christmas cards that did gangbuster sales. The best part was the non-stop laughing as they continued to create some fabulously hilarious "Elf Scenarios" that were photographed and then transformed into a delightful range of cards they printed and collated themselves. What a fabulous enterprise and we can't wait to see what happens to Elf this coming Christmas.

14.01.2022 Jonathan Lee, one of C2A Bayswater's supported employees, has landed the starring role as Willy Wonka in InMove's production of The Chocolate Factory and we couldn't be more excited for him. InMove is an inclusive community which supports the participation of people of all abilities through performance and the arts. The Chocolate Factory will be performed on Sunday December 8th at the Knox Community Arts Centre (doors open 2.30pm for a 3.30pm start). We've got no doubt Jonathan and his fellow cast will do brilliantly and we're thrilled to see him doing something he loves. Well done and good luck from all of us at C2A. #inclusion #performingarts #followyourdream #supportedemployment #creatingopportunities #disability #workconnections #goteamjonathan

11.01.2022 Community Connections Traralgon participant Lindsay was supported to attend the Long Lunch at Churchill Neighbourhood House. The Long Lunch is to celebrate good food and also link in with World Food Day. In additional to a range of public activities such as stalls, cooking demonstrations, music and food trucks, there was also an invite only Community Long Lunch. People were invited from Latrobe food relief services, neighbourhood houses, community groups, and local producer...s who are involved in food related activities to participate and enjoy a free two course lunch cooked by local chefs Noelene Marchwicki and Jaci Hicken, in a small gesture to thank them for all their hard work and dedication. C2A was invited to attend due to being involved in the FoodCents program which teaches people to eat healthily and on a budget. C2A participants have been undertaking this program at the Traralgon hub. Lindsay (pictured with C2A Traralgon Facilitator Damian) got to chat with some local producers and also met Noelene from MasterChef.

10.01.2022 Volunteers help the world go round and C2A is very grateful to the amazing people who help run our Opportunity Shop in Seymour St Traralgon. Often some of our Traralgon hub participants go to the store and lend a helping hand as well. What an amazingly supportive community! Some C2A participants and many of the op shop volunteers got together to celebrate another year with some Christmas cheer. It was the perfect time to give thanks and show gratitude for all they do to help... C2A create opportunities for those living with disability. At the lunch, Certificates of Thanks were awarded to Sandra Macaulay and Jenny Ross to acknowledge their time as Team Leaders while Aroha Gillespie received an Award for Service for her amazing 15 years as a volunteer with C2A. 09.01.2022 We've got this guys!

09.01.2022 It's often our 'connections' that create opportunities as shown with the new work contract at Connect Health and Community in Bentleigh East that came to fruition after C2A Executive Assistant Marilyn Richards recommended our Bayswater Work Crew for the job. Fabulous networking by Marilyn followed up by great work by the supported work crew on the ground. Here's Carol, Kiko, Dan and Mel working their garden maintenance magic.

08.01.2022 Look out! Our Mt Eliza Op Shop is back open for business- and it's had a makeover! 16B Ranelagh Drive. This week our volunteers will be opening the doors Monday, Thursday & Friday 10am-3pm. Please remember social distancing and COVID rules when visiting.

08.01.2022 For Connecting2Australias Disability Employment Consultant Amanda Clifford, its all about finding the balance in meeting the needs of both employer and employee. And with Kleeton Broad and ACS Signage, it seems she found the perfect match. Kleeton, who for the past 15 years had been part of the C2A Seaford work crew as a supported employee, made the transition to open employment in October and he is thriving in his new role. According to Amanda, ACS Signage is equally thrill...ed with their newest employee and feedback is they would highly recommend C2A to other employers. It was the first time ACS had ever employed someone with a disability and I dont think it will be their last, she said. Andrew at ACS has been most impressed with the process, particularly the post placement support Kleeton receives from C2A for up to 12 months if needed. When Kleeton first decided he wanted to move into open employment, Amanda worked with him to determine what he wanted to do, secured the lead with a potential employer, took him to the job interview and later discussed wage subsidy and work trail options with ACS. For Kleeton, open employment means more money in his pocket, a new career path in warehousing and the potential to be trained in signwriting. And judging by the smile on his face, hes pretty happy with his decision. In my job, its all about the connection, said Amanda. "Theres nothing more rewarding than seeing such a positive outcome for both parties. When I see an employer who is happy with the placement and an employee who looks forward to going to work and creating a new future, its truly what makes my job worthwhile.

07.01.2022 AccessAbility Day provided the perfect opportunity for jobseekers with disability and employers to connect for a day and experience what each has to offer. For C2A participant Bradley Sharp and TuffTurf in Heatherton, thats exactly what happened. With the help of C2As Disability Employment Service Consultant Amanda Clifford, the two parties had a trial run, where TuffTurf got to explore the concept of employing a jobseeker with disability, while Bradley had the chance to... gain an insight into open employment. Brad currently enjoys supported employment at C2As Work Connections Seaford hub where he is part of the grounds maintenance crew and is undertaking his Certificate III in Horticulture at Chisholm. Tuff Turf plans, provides, installs, and maintains synthetic turf and surfaces so it was a great opportunity for Brad to dip his toe in the water and trial a different type of work and environment, with him spending time working with Barry in the warehouse. According to TuffTurf Office Manager Vicky Malliaros, it was a wonderful opportunity for both the business and staff to experience firsthand and one they would consider repeating in the future. Prior to his arrival, a lovely email was sent out to all staff welcoming Brad and a link to AccessAbility Day so staff could better understand the purpose behind it. This was the first time we had organised to someone with a disability come to our work and we thoroughly enjoyed it, she said. Having Bradley spend the day with us was a delight. He was very happy, friendly, easy to get along with and no task was too hard for him. We greatly appreciated the work he did while he was here. For Bradley, the time at TuffTurf was well spent because it proved to him, he is on the right track with his Horticulture course. I enjoyed being there and the people were really friendly and nice to me, he said. What I did learn was I prefer being outside, even in winter. For me, working outside in the garden is what I love doing the most. According to Amanda, thats exactly what AccessAbility Day is all about. Were very grateful to TuffTurf for being so inclusive and opening their doors to provide this opportunity to Brad and we equally commend Brad for stepping outside his comfort zone. Its all about learning new things, being open to experiences, and figuring out were all unique and its not a one size fits all world. For more information about open and supported employment, please contact Amanda Clifford on 1300 111 212 or visit www.connecting2australia.org.au

06.01.2022 With Anzac day approaching in these unprecedented times Connecting2Australia continue to have the honour of maintaining the War Graves at Nicholas Point. Our gardening crew headed up by John Lauders take great pride in doing so as you can see on the faces of James and Christian. John who also has a special passion for the local war graves as his father (now deceased) served in PNG during WW11 has been maintaining the war grave for many years and is especially privileged to do so at this time of the year. Although there wont be any local dawn services or parades this year and the ANZACS wont see us or hear us we can still honour them by standing at the end of our driveways at 6am for a minutes silence to show them that we will never forget the sacrifices they have made for our country.

05.01.2022 C2A was very fortunate to be invited to have a stall at the Mt Eliza Village Christmas Farmers Market where we could showcase and sell some of our handmade candles and other goodies. C2A Bayswater participants Jo and Brad (far left and right in the photo) had a fabulous time chatting with everyone who stopped by to say hello and buy something (over $670 worth was sold on the day). Big thanks to Jess at the Farmers Market for allowing us to join in. 05.01.2022 Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation and without a heart C2A would not survive. On National volunteers week we say thank you to all of our volunteers across the organisation. We couldnt do what we do without you.

04.01.2022 To our wonderful employees, participants and community, We know you are aware these are unprecedented times indeed and C2A is watching and monitoring the situation day-by-day, taking all the advice required by our government and health department. Our hearts go out to anyone who is or has been affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak worldwide. As always, the case, the wellbeing of our community is paramount to C2A, so we have taken extra precautions and enhanced sa...nitising measures to ensure the health and safety of our team, participants and community. Our hubs are currently open, but we are taking strong measures to ensure hygiene and social distance. While we have always thoroughly cleaned our hubs, weve increased the frequency of cleaning in high-touch surfaces such as handrails, door handles and counters as well as social distancing in our hubs. C2A also has hand sanitiser available for use by staff and participants in all hubs. We are currently working on sourcing single-use hand sanitiser wipes for participants and staff use. We have requested that staff wash their hands & sanitise often. Team members are instructed to stay at home if they exhibit any flu or cold-like symptoms. C2A requests that participants stay home if they exhibit any flu, cold-like symptoms or fever. C2A is committed to the health and safety of our employees, implementing special leave provisions for those impacted by the COVID-19 coronavirus health pandemic. Our team members are being informed with up-to-date information as it happens. We are asking all visitors to our hubs to respect and adhere to our enhanced sanitising measures as well as social distancing in our hubs. What is social distancing and why is it important? (taken from the Department of Health and Human Services): Social distancing includes ways to stop or slow the spread of infectious diseases. It means less contact between you and other people. Social distancing is important because COVID-19 is most likely to spread from person-to-person through: direct close contact with a person while they are infectious or in the 24 hours before their symptoms appeared close contact with a person with a confirmed infection who coughs or sneezes, or touching objects or surfaces (such as door handles or tables) contaminated from a cough or sneeze from a person with a confirmed infection, and then touching your mouth or face. So, the more space between you and others, the harder it is for the virus to spread. If you or members of your family have any concerns in relation to exposure or have flu like symptoms you should contact Coronavirus Health Information Line 1800 020 080 in the first instance. Above all, C2A wish you and your family continued health during this crisis. Kind regards Keith Mortimer Chief Executive Officer
