24.01.2022 More detail and examples of attributing meaning....
24.01.2022 What would you like to learn from a conference like this?
23.01.2022 Communication disability is largely invisible. Unseen and out-of-sight. That’s why every year we host Speech Pathology Week to make more Australians aware of th...e 1.2 million Australians with communication disability. The speech pathology profession plays a crucial role working with Australians with communication disability to ensure everyone is communicating with confidence. www.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au/spw2020
23.01.2022 We were glad to hear the Premier's announcements yesterday that will allow us to resume in clinic sessions for our families from metro areas. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be in touch with families who have taken a break from therapy, or who have limited success with Telehealth and try to fit them back into our diaries. We cannot guarantee spots but we will do our best. All other aspects of our COVID Safe plan remain in effect - hand hygiene, extra room and equipment cleaning, contact tracing, temperature checking, and use of PPE by our clinicians and parents accompanying children into the clinic. Our waiting room will remain closed for the moment and only people participating in sessions (one parent, no siblings) will be able to attend with our clients.
23.01.2022 Are you, or do you know our next clinical team mates? We are recruiting new graduate and more experienced speech pathologists for our growing team!
23.01.2022 Our team at Connecting Dots have definitely felt the impact of social distancing, online communication, and wearing PPE on our communication and seen it affect our clients and their families. We hope that the impact on your confidence communication and connections with others is not too significantly impacted.
23.01.2022 Hi im Morgan Some of you may have already seen me around but I have recently started working at connecting dots for kids as the new Admin. What a great team to work with. I am truly very lucky to work with such amazing caring people. I have 5 years experience in medical reception, so Speech Therapy is new to me. It's such an interesting field to work in and am looking forward to learning heaps more. ... I am a mother of two young girls (1 & 2yrs) who are very energetic and keep me on my toes. My partner and I live out of town on a couple of acres with our 3 Alpacas, 1 Lamb and 2 dogs. I look forward to meeting all our lovely families and getting to know all the amazing kids we see.
23.01.2022 It's a difficult time for those of us still in lockdown, who need to wear masks to go outside the house. We’re thinking of the people who need their support wor...kers and visitors to their home to wear a mask. It’s so different, and possibly frightening for some people. KWS can help people understand why things have changed, and what we need to do to keep everyone safe. We've made a resource that can help you have a conversation about this. Using key word sign can help people better understand what is being said, and therefore be less anxious about the changes around them. A big thank-you to all the support workers and carers out there who are doing such an amazing job! You are our heroes Keep safe everyone Find out more about Key Word Sign here: www.kwsa.com.au

22.01.2022 Important keys for teaching and learning written language.
21.01.2022 More buzzwords from speech pathologists... "Communication Partners" broadly are people who interact with the individual on whom we are focussed. They are an important part of any communication exchange but their skill and responsiveness is even more critical for people who use non-speech means of communication.

19.01.2022 Happy Speech Pathology week.
19.01.2022 Attributing meaning is another important concept when working with our early communicators, whether they use speech at all or not. We respond to what they do with their bodies and faces, showing them that they are important. We demonstrate other ways the message can be communicated, and we encourage them to keep interacting.
17.01.2022 I think this course would be great value for many professionals we work with.
17.01.2022 Exciting times... Speech Pathology students are graduating https://www.linkedin.com//lydelle-joseph-7ab8086a_love-stu
16.01.2022 In honour of International Sign Language Day....
16.01.2022 We know it's been a long time away from the classroom for most students, and things will still be a little different as they return in October. To help your ch...ild feel prepared for their return to school, this story explains what school might be like and how things might be different in Term 4 for Victorian students. See more
15.01.2022 Communication access is a human right and you can make a difference for people who use different ways of communicating.
10.01.2022 Families of children with little speech, whether you are using Proloquo or not, these sessions could be really useful for you.
09.01.2022 Mental health tip for the day/week. I need this as much as anyone.
09.01.2022 Think about this for a moment...
05.01.2022 Night time listening for me which may be helpful for people in our community.
05.01.2022 So important to remember how much is going on for our children using AAC.
04.01.2022 Quite often, less is more when it comes to toys and gadgets for kids. Imaginative play, language development and life's kills often don't need specific equipment. I love many of the ideas fro Learn with Less and recommend checking out their posts and free workshops.
04.01.2022 Only a couple of our young friends at Connecting Dots for Kids require enteral feeds (nutrition straight into their digestive tract bypassing their mouths) but I was still excited to see these creatively designed fun covers for their "buttons". https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/Akilala The make has also started making a range of inclusive finger puppets depicting children with different needs and various assistive technologies. Super Cool.
04.01.2022 What is the difference between a phoneme, a grapheme and a morpheme? Confused? Here is our graphic that will help explain the difference between these terms. #phonics #learntoread #phonicsfun
03.01.2022 Have you heard of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)? DLD is one of the most common disorders you may never have heard of. It impacts a person's ability to understand and use language. In turn it becomes a barrier to forming relationships and living life to the full. On average there are 2 children in every school classroom with some level of DLD.... At Connecting Dots for Kids, we are committed to helping children with DLD live their best lives. Our team have access to training in the latest research and treatment options for DLD and we are implementing new strategies as we learn. This helps both us and our clients develop new functional skills.
02.01.2022 How does Telehealth work for children with autism?
02.01.2022 We've just listed our new graduate roles with the Rural Workforce Agency Victoria, which means that our next team members may be eligible for a $2000 relocation grant and all of our team can apply for additional funds for continuing professional development. Check out our vacancy https://www.seek.com.au/job/50764222 for details or www.rwav.com.au for other allied health, nursing and GP roles in Victoria.
01.01.2022 Posting for myself as much as anyone following our page.
01.01.2022 Alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) means ways to communicate instead of or as well as speech. It can be helpful for more people than you might think.
