24.01.2022 Have you ever struggled to access childcare? Has your workplace ever done a great (or terrible) job at providing a flexible work environment? Do you know how we can enable more women and girls to take up leadership roles? The Victorian Government is developing a Gender Equality Strategy and they want to hear our thoughts. You can make a submission as an individual or let us know whats important to you and well feed it back in a group submission. The consultation asks a nu...mber of questions about how to improve womens lives - you can answer one of them or all of them! The government needs to hear from everyone and as women in rural areas we have unique needs and experiences to share. Please get in touch or jump online and make your voice heard. What do you think we need to achieve gender equality in Victoria? http://www.dpc.vic.gov.au//n/gender-equality-have-your-say

17.01.2022 "I watched the Connecting Women Across Gippsland conference unfold on social media. I had just returned to our cafe business full-time after a year of maternity leave. The snippets I saw were inspiring and I was cross with myself for not getting along. Im locking it in next time! The 4 kids, lack of sleep and demanding business are not excuses to stay away... They are the reasons I must make time to go for ME and enjoy being around other women in Gippsland juggling their own busy lives" Phoebe Rae is the owner of Obsession Coffee in Trafalgar and has kindly donated a $20 voucher for any woman that can share something about the conference. Wed love to hear some stories! Please share them here & itll be Phoebes job to decide who gets the voucher! #greatyarns #storytime #womenconnecting #coffee #connect #women

12.01.2022 Bairnsdale Hospital has taken the astonishing decision this week to ban popular private midwife Angela Kellock from the hospital. Women who have engaged Angela have said they have been told by their GPs that they will not be able to have Angela support them in their labour at the hospital, and that they will be ineligible to birth at the hospital if Angela attends. Clearly this is a breach of a womans right to choose who supports her at her birth. ... East Gippsland Birth Support Group is holding a meeting this Wednesday June 22 at 7pm at Intertwined Family Health to discuss what action we can take. All concerned people are invited to attend. Eighteen months ago the hospital promised that maternity services would improve at Bairnsdale Hospital. The feedback that the birth support group has been consistently getting is that services have worsened the promise of having a known midwife has just has not happened. Caseload midwifery is no longer happening and the hospital has acknowledged they dont have the staff to make team midwifery work properly. Things have just got dramatically worse now that women cannot even have their own midwife accompany them to the hospital to ensure they have a known caregiver.
