25.01.2022 Trick or Treat It’s TAX TIME Who has to pay tax? If you earn more than the tax-free threshold which currently stands at $18,200, you’re required to lodge a tax return with the Australian Tax Office (ATO).... If you don’t need to lodge a tax return it’s important to submit a non-lodgement advice to the ATO. This explains that you don’t need to lodge and ensures they don’t list you as having an outstanding return. What happens if I don’t lodge a tax return? The ATO will issue you a Failure To Lodge You may be prosecuted - the maximum penalty which can be applied on prosecution is now $9,000 or imprisonment for up to 12 months It may increase your chances of being reviewed or audited by the ATO So don’t get spooked - get your tax return lodged by this Saturday 31 October! 20.01.2022 The Premier said the extension of the state of emergency until 13 September 2030 would ensure authorities could enforce restrictions. Since 2 August, Victoria has also been under a four-week state of disaster, which may be reviewed.... ? Victoria has been in a state of emergency since 16 March 2020. This is a declaration that is made under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, where there is a serious risk to public health. The Act confers wide-ranging powers on the Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton. For example: to impose physical distancing, quarantine people, and prohibit mass gatherings. A state of emergency can be imposed for six months before it must be revoked. So it can be in effect until midnight on 13 September unless an amendment is made to the legislation to extend it past six months. In todays press conference, Andrews noted this as a possibility. ? With new cases of coronavirus still emerging in by the hundreds daily in Victoria, according to the Premier it is necessary so there is "no doubt as to the authority and the effectiveness of all of the measures that weve put in place". ? The Emergency Management Act 1986 allows the Premier of Victoria to make such a declaration after considering the advice of the Minister for Police and emergency services and the Emergency Management Commissioner. The Premier has to be satisfied there is an emergency that constitutes a significant and widespread danger to life or property in Victoria. A state of disaster came into effect on 2 August, for one month so stricter, Stage 4 restrictions could be enforced. For example: the 8:00pm to 5:00am curfew and the ban on people travelling beyond the 5 kilometre radius around their home. It is due to end at 6:00pm on 2 September. ? While the state of emergency grants powers to the Chief Health Officer to do "whatever is necessary to contain the spread of the virus and reduce the risk to the health of Victorians", the state of disaster grants powers to Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville to respond to the disaster. The Premier says both declarations are needed so authorities have the full range of powers they require to enforce restrictions on movement and keep people safe. How are you coping with the current lockdown measures?

Well, your FB feed is about to have a dramatic shake-up Facebook today has followed through on its threat and has blocked Australian users and media publishers from posting, viewing, or sharing news content on the social network What in the FB?! ... Facebook made this stunning decision in retaliation to Australia’s proposed new Media Bargaining law, with the federal government pushing forward with a plan to force social media giants to pay for news content. Unfortunately, this means people and news organisations in Australia are now restricted from posting news links and sharing or viewing Australian and international news content on Facebook, the wrote in a blog post. Globally, posting and sharing news links from Australian publishers is also restricted". 16.01.2022 What the Facebook?! By now you must of heard the news about Facebook's bombshell decision today... Or not because BLOCKING the news is exactly what the social media giant has decided to do in retaliation to Australia’s proposed new Media Bargaining law It's not surprising to see Facebook make this move - it's exactly what they've been threatening the federal government with.... What was surprising, however, were the countless Facebook pages of governments, registered charities, social services, and community groups such 1800 Respect, the Bureau of Meteorology, and even the South Australian Government's SA Health page all caught in the crossfire. Pages such as these were essentially blacklisted this morning with the history of all their Facebook posts removed. While some are announcing this afternoon their pages have been restored, it is a dangerous mistake by Facebook's algorithm. These are not news media pages, thus should not be subject to the ban. They post crucial information and updates about public health and safety. Have you noticed changes in your feed?
