25.01.2022 This is an interesting article about some of the traits of people with high EQ - or Emotional Intelligence. Possessing a good amount of EQ generally equates to a robust sense of self and clear perspective on the actions of those around us. These are great traits for us all to strive for.

09.01.2022 You might have known me as Andrew G from Channel [v]. Or that blonde-haired guy on Australian Idol. Or maybe you recognise me as that bloke from The Bachelor ...who counts the roses what does he call himself now? It's funny being on TV because people think they know you. What most people don't know is that I, like many other people, was born with a different brain. A brain that has a tendency towards anxiety and rumination. For years I tried to manage things with alcohol, but that just made everything worse. Eventually, the amount I needed to drink in order to feel anywhere near ‘normal’ became just too much, so I had to stop completely. Like any illness left untreated, I ended up getting quite sick - the anxiety kicked up into Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and eventually, I experienced a break. I slipped into psychosis. The thing is, I went through all of this while I was still working on TV. You mightn’t have known it, but the guy you were looking at in the nice tailored suit was struggling with complex mental illness. Thankfully, with the love of my family, some great doctors and some well-prescribed medication - I have since got a lot better. But I know it’s important to talk about what I went through. Complex mental illness affects 1 in 4 Australians, so I know I’m not alone. Stigma is a major factor stopping many people seeking help. And the only thing that reduces stigma is to make the topic of complex mental illness more normal to talk about. So, here I am. Talking about what it was like to have experienced complex mental illness, and yet still fall in love, get married, hold down a job and enjoy a rich and fulfilling life. I know I’m not alone. I want to make it more normal to hear these kinds of conversations, so that when you or someone you love gets diagnosed - it’s not so scary. It’s something that you’re born with, but if it’s managed - life can be wonderful, people are understanding when you have off days, and generally, no one treats you any differently.
