23.01.2022 Saw a client at one of my favourite child care centres today. This sign is posted on the back of the staff toilet door. The teachers there certainly operate with a passionate, caring and energising attitude. This toilet door reminder is GOLD!!

20.01.2022 I am such a HUGE advocate of preloved toys. I remind my clients all the time to be on the look out for great equipment/props and toys on the side of the road, at garage/carboot sales, toy libraries and friends who no longer have a need for them. Quite often it is someone else's junk that becomes the next best thing for a child! It certainly feels a lot better to have only paid $NOTHING $2, $5, $10 to give a toy a go rather than a lot more money, with no guarantee that it will be loved for more than a couple of hours!

15.01.2022 Timmy Time is a perfect kids show for giving kids with ASD an opportunity to read and interpret non verbal communication in a fun way (eg body gesturing, facial expressions etc). The reason for this is because 'Timmy Time' contains no speech! The beauty is that you can press pause as many times as you like to discuss what you can see happening. Life happens at a very fast pace so videos are a great way of slowing things down to allow more time for processing. I use 'Timmy Time' as well as 'Shaun the Sheep' you tube clips in therapy, with those clients who are up to this stage in development. The kids love it!

14.01.2022 I LOVE my work and having the pleasure of working with kids on the autism spectrum. I am fascinated everyday with their minds! We have just started to use a communication app- Proloquo2go with one of my 5 year old clients because he cannot yet express himself through speech. He typed the sentence 'Let's play with the bubbles' in our session today and of course we ran to get the bubbles! I just love hearing what is on his mind. The look of delight on his face when he is understood is priceless.

12.01.2022 Want to see something powerful and inspiring? Spend just 10 minutes listening to this fabulous lady Brene Brown! Understanding the importance of vulnerability is so important in establishing deep, authentic and CONNECTED relationships. This is something that I aspire to everyday with my family, friends and of course clients...hence why I named my Speech Therapy approach, Connect Therapy!

10.01.2022 I love using this book in therapy! I just ordered four more of Maria Dismondy's books today because she has a knack of creating story books that celebrate individuality and respecting the thoughts and feelings of others. Can't wait for Mr Postman to deliver them...

03.01.2022 I love taking the time in therapy sessions to celebrate, with the parents, all the wonderful improvements that we witness. I think we can often forget to regularly stop, reflect and remember these PRECIOUS moments as time passes. A mum and I were reflecting on this in session today as her son regularly paused during their play and lovingly brushed his cheek on her hand to express his appreciation of her. He certainly didn't need words to say "I LOVE YOU MUM". #Goosebumpmoments!

02.01.2022 Feeling incredibly overwhelmed with emotion right now as I attend a heart felt book launch! This absolutely hilarious guy was our page boy at our wedding and his clever mum is the author of a new book 'Dealing with Autism'. I had the absolute pleasure of doing speech therapy with this family over 14 years ago. I love the Hope, Love and Support that this book represents especially since this mum was told in the first year of Richie's life that he would not walk or talk. Believe me he can definitely talk! Congratulations Randa Habelrih, you are an inspiration and gift to the world.
