24.01.2022 Meet some of Connect With Home participants, who have been supporting each other in exploring affordable, secure housing options for themselves. The ladies met today for the fourth time and will continue to get together regularly until the end of November. We're looking forward to what will come out of the group -- hoping a few of them find a safe place to call home. Connect With Home, funded by Department of Communities, has the wonderful Wendy Morris (top left) as a project officer and facilitator.
23.01.2022 We can fix this if we prioritise it!
21.01.2022 This story is great timing for our Connect 60+ participants as we are focusing on vocational wellness this week. We will be exploring the importance of finding and maintaining an active involvement in those things that allow you to express yourself, give you purpose and a sense of satisfaction. Sometimes this is paid and other times voluntary but we all need it and we don't stop needing it. Enjoy!
20.01.2022 The Mackie Street Singers meet, dance and sing together on Tuesday evenings here at our hall (5 Mackie St), come along!
15.01.2022 What an amazing day we had yesterday at the Village Hub Spring Fete! There was so much interest from the community! We owe a huge thank you to our members and volunteers who made the day a big success. And also to Urban Revolution Australia, Antz Cafes, Angelo Street Gallery & Picture Framers, Barretts Bakery, Woolworths, Victoria Park Mens Shed, Friends of Jirdarup Bushland, Mackie Street Singers, Outback Paddy Michael Blake - Songwriter & Musician, the lovely Rene Polenta with children's activities, and everyone else who supported our Fete! Over and over again we find there's heaps of joy when we work together towards a common goal. Can't wait for next years' fete!
15.01.2022 And that's a wrap! Today was the last session of Connect 60+ Mind, Body & Soul, our wellness program in partnership with Curtin University and Independent Living Assessment, and support from Town of Victoria Park. What a journey! Today we heard from Prof Anne-Marie Hill, director of Curtin Ageing Research Network, and asked for loads of feedback. In a couple of months we will have data from the program, but we already can tell that connections made over 10 weeks will keep this group going for a long time!
14.01.2022 Come and meet our members and volunteers, the Village Hub Spring Fete is on until 3pm!
14.01.2022 Calling all green thumbs and tree lovers in Vic Park! Come along to our Community Planting Day on October 10, meet some of our tenants and help transform the corner of Hordern and Mackie Streets into a green oasis, using Western Australian plants! The day is part of our Connect Canopy project, funded by Town of Victoria Park as part of the Urban Forest Strategy. https://www.facebook.com/events/736458866904460/
12.01.2022 What are the roles we play in life, the skills and attributes they require, and how do we maintain confidence as we age? Those were some of the questions that Connect 60+ participants discussed today at our vocational wellness session, facilitated by Keren Smedley. It generated great conversation, and people gave nagging rights to others to hold them accountable on actions they want to take. The session was also a learning curve for us in operating breakout rooms and new technology to improve the experience for Zoom participants. We're getting better all the time!
11.01.2022 Ready to roll! Our social cycling group just preparing to take off for their Monday morning ride! These guys meet at the Hub every Monday and Thursday if you would like to join them.

Tomorrow Rosalind will return with Tai Chi at 9.30 and Hannes will be running Active For Life in the park at 9.30 on Friday if you would like to join in..
11.01.2022 Affordable and secure housing for older people is our business, and we are proud to support, alongside Shelter WA, the Reimagining Home project, a framework developed by Liz Lennon to create homes with older single women on low incomes so they can age well in their communities of choice. Today at Parliament House, Liz presented her research, look book and framework - using a lens of hope - to overcome the wicked challenge of supporting people who supported others throughout their lives. It was fantastic to bring the women engaged in our Connect With Home project to hear Liz as they go about reimagining home themselves. We look forward to continuing working with Liz, Shelter and others to achieve good outcomes in that space!
11.01.2022 Ten weeks go by so fast! Today was our second last session of Connect 60+, a wellness program in partnership with Curtin University and Independent Living Assessment, and support from Town of Victoria Park. Everyone is very familiar with resistance exercise by now and all nine sessions with Hannes Holly have been a lot of fun! For the spiritual domain this week, we also had a try at Chair Yoga and Mindfulness. Next week is time for feedback and celebration of a great journey together!
06.01.2022 This week on Time-warp Tuesday we meet the man behind the name of Buzza Street, St James. Private John Mitchell Buzza was born in Bendigo, Victoria, in 1897 to ...John and Ada (nee Mitchell) BUZZA. John lived with his parents at 2 Mint Street, Victoria Park and was a Telegraph Messenger before enlisting. The Commonwealth Gazette of January 1916 recorded that John was paid an annual salary of 52. He enlisted in AIF in June 1915 and served in the 11th Battalion. John was killed in action in Belgium on 7 October 1917. Lest We Forget John Mitchell Buzza. If you have photographs, posters or other items that tell the story of Victoria Park and suburbs, we would love to see them. Please get in touch on 9373 5500 or email [email protected] #LoveVicPark
03.01.2022 As we approach the end of Kambarang, season of birth, we're delighted to see so many of the plants we put in the ground flowering and thriving. Getting ready for dry and hot Birak season!
