23.01.2022 Dear CPSC members and friends, It is with deep sadness that I pass on the news that Jamie passed away on Monday morning peacefully, surrounded by his precious family. Sarah wishes to thank all for the friendship and support to Jamie, her and the children.... Jamie was a talented sailor who grew up on the shores of Lake Macquarie. He sailed Sabots as a junior before moving into NS14’s where he won State titles and the youngest winner of the National titles to date. He moved onto Cherubs and then into the 470. Jamie campaigned the 470 in Europe, vying for selection on the 2000 Australian Olympic team, being top ranked Australian at one regatta and having the enviable record of always being a gold fleet qualifier. 16’ skiffs beckoned with familiar success. Jamie & Sarah sailed together and won an NS14 State titles, an MG14 Nationals and competed at the Hobie 16 Worlds in Fiji. As their family grew a Moth was the next boat, but his devotion to his children meant this was for fun rather than success. Jamie led the coaching of the junior Optimist fleet at the club but little did they know of his sailing pedigree. Jamie would be the last to brag about his experience (and as I write this I feel I should be apologising to him). And that rather neatly sums up Jamie - quiet, but strong, laidback but resilient, never giving up, someone who loved sailing, but was at his happiest surrounded by his family. We send our sincere condolences to Sarah, Luke, Ben, Emily and Hayley. Regards, Jon Branch President

15.01.2022 Junior club member and assistant sailing instructor Ava Smith has been selected as part of a small group of children to race in supporting Inspire Racing events for the upcoming SailGP on Sydney Harbour on Friday 28 and Sunday 29 February 2020. As part of Inspire Racing (https://sailgp.com/general/inspire/racing/) SailGP's global youth outreach program, Ava was selected to represent the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, racing an RS Cat14 catamaran against 7 other clubs, with... crews made up of one boy and one girl each under 15 years old. She will be racing on the SailGP course, before and between SailGP races, on the big screen and in front of the crowds on Sydney Harbour, for the two-day event. As part of the Inspire program Ava will meet the SailGP teams and be coached by SailGP skippers. Ava learnt to sail at one of our school holiday courses at Connell's Point Sailing Club in 2017 and has embraced the sport. She still sails at and helps juniors learn to sail at CPSC, and is also learning to sail larger crewed racing yachts on Sydney Harbour. We wish you fair winds for the event, Ava!
