25.01.2022 I am thrilled to have received my Bachelor of Music (Composition) degree with First Class Honours this week. It wasn’t your typical graduation ceremony as a result of the current pandemic. Instead, I was presented my Testamur by the Australia Post Delivery man! I am thankful for all of the opportunities that I have had over the last four years to learn, develop my craft and gain experience, and am indebted to the people who have supported and encouraged me along the way. ... Looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
24.01.2022 Privileged to have been the Alumni speaker for Cedars Christian College Celebration 2016 on Wednesday evening.
24.01.2022 Thrilled to be a guest at Konzertprojekt's upcoming concert - "Frames" - this Friday, September 8th at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Recital Hall East at 6:30pm, including the premiere of two new pieces of mine; "Etendue Numerique" and "Meditonations." Looking forward to a fantastic night of new music at the Con, and would love to see you there! Etendue Numerique is an electroacoustic work for Clarinet in Bb and Electronics which investigates a serial-based approach... to electronic composition. The concept of divergence is at the forefront of the interactive relationship between the soloist, live electronics and pre-recorded ‘tape’ parts, exploring a complex sound world of constantly shifting and evolving parameters based upon a 12-tone row. The piece will be performed by Katherine Howarth (Clarinet). Meditonations is a structured improvisation for Euphonium and Piano, the result of a collaborative project between myself and Adam Melzer which explores a more tonal approach to harmonising 12-tone serial music. The piece will be performed by Connor Hutchinson (Euphonium) and Adam Melzer (Piano).
22.01.2022 WORLD PREMIERE Looking forward to the world premiere of my new work 'COMPLEXIONS - Four Preludes for Chamber Orchestra' by the SCM Modern Music Ensemble at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music this Friday September 27 at 7pm. I would love to see you there! "The Modern Music Ensemble are fresh from their international tour to participate in the Chengdu International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival in China to be part of a festival alongside 55 other acts from around the worl...d. This concert conducted by Daryl Pratt will be one of the biggest programs to date both in size and stylistically, and features a world premiere of a work chosen through a competitive selection process, composed by Conservatorium student Connor Hutchinson" - The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, 'What's on at the Con September 2019' ABOUT 'COMPLEXIONS - Four Preludes for Chamber Orchestra' was composed in 2019 for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Modern Music Ensemble. It presents four distinctive character pieces based on the 'Four Temperaments', a proto-psychological theory which promotes four fundamental personality types: sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic. The Four Preludes serve to create unity and/or contrast within any program of works, with the number and order of movements selected in conjunction with character and style of the other repertoire. The complexity of each temperament and their overlapping traits is represented through this extensive exploration and manipulation of serial-inuenced procedures, which articulates the connectedness and intricacy of our physical being. I. Sanguine ... sociable, outgoing, responsive, lively, carefree ... II. Choleric ... touchy, restless, aggressive, excitable, changeable, impulsive, optimistic ... III. Melancholic ... moody, anxious, rigid, sober, pessimistic, reserved, unsociable ... IV. Phlegmatic ... passive, thoughtful, careful, peaceful, controlled, calm, reliable ...
20.01.2022 'Meditonations' - Structured Improvisation for Piano and Euphonium written in a recent collaboration with Adam Melzer Music. Check out this recording from Konzertprojekt's 'Frames' concert at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in September. What a privilege it was working with as talented a composer and pianist as Adam Melzer, looking forward to working with you again in the near future!
19.01.2022 Hey everyone! Thank you for liking and sharing my new Facebook page. Here is a recording of my latest composition, a graphic score entitled 'Acquiescence and Equanimity', which contemplates and reflects upon the concepts of peace and acceptance. The work premiered on Thursday 27th of October, performed live at the Choral Assembly Hall of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music by Thomas McCorquodale (Piano), accompanied by David Tocknell (Viola) and Will Hansen (Double Bass) who... were live streamed from various locations in the surrounding Sydney Botanic Gardens into the Choral Assembly Hall via Facebook (massive thank you to my on-location tech guys Adam Melzer and Oscar Smith). The resulting auditory experience opens the doors of the concert hall to the soundscape of the exterior world, Framing environmental and unintended sounds in a moment of attention in order to open the mind to the possibility that all sounds are in fact music, blurring the conventional boundaries between music, art and life. Through the performance of this work, both the performer and the listener are encouraged to find peace and value in the smaller more beautiful moments of the present time. See more

09.01.2022 What an absolute privilege it is to have my 'Meditation - Be Still' recorded on the Melbourne Staff Band's latest album, 'Rise'. The album features music from a number of prominent composers, including Ballantine, Sharman, Cordner, Trigg, Holmlund, Creamer, Hultgren, Hogg, Ling, and Ponsford. You can purchase a copy of the album here: https://msbshop.com.au/product/rise/ ... You can also stream the album on Apple Music, Spotify and Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=15&v=hT2FDfH5txU PROGRAM NOTE - Be Still The ‘Meditation - Be Still’ was written following the first rehearsal week of the newly formed Australia Territory Youth Band in Melbourne, July 2018. The theme of our time together was based on the scripture Matthew 6:31, in which Jesus asks his disciples to come away with Him; alone to a quiet place and to rest for a while. I was challenged about the concept of rest and being entirely still in the Lord’s presence amongst the constant demands of life. As I returned to my day-to-day routine over the following weeks, I continually heard the whispers of God in various aspects of my life reminding me to be intentional in my quiet time with Him. During this time, I found His persistent reassurance that I didn’t need to figure things out on my own; but to instead be still and trust in the plan He has for my life, which has already seen me prosper to be where I am today. As I reflected on this, the above scripture and the words of several songs, I penned the following Meditation with an aptness of music to lyrics; not just as a testimony of my own, but as the emotional and spiritual journey of the listener into the presence of our Lord and Saviour. As you listen to the music and meditate on the lyrics, it is my hope and prayer that no matter what circumstances you may be facing in your life right now, you can hold on to the words of Moses in Exodus 14:13-14; Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still... Connor Hutchinson, 2018.
09.01.2022 What an incredible experience it has been touring the U.K. with the Australian Territorial Youth Band of the Salvation Army and Silvie Paladino. Over just 10 days, the band presented a variety of services, concerts and outreaches in Hythe, London, Bedford, Morriston, Liverpool and Sunderland, sharing the message that 'Christ is Enough' in every situation. Following some time with the UK TYB in Northampton, we finished up in Birmingham for the Musicians Councils and much anti...cipated Symphony Sounds concert in the beautiful Symphony Hall, and what an absolute privilege it was to share the stage with the International Staff Band and Staff Songsters of the Salvation Army. On Monday, I also had the privilege of catching up with Dr. Stephen Cobb in the Music and Creative Arts department of the UKI Territorial Headquarters and visiting its Publishing Department. Off to explore Europe for a few days now before heading back home to Australia next week. For more photos, videos and a full daily review of our tour, please like and visit the Australian Territorial Youth Band Facebook Page at https://m.facebook.com/AUSTerritorialYouthBand/

The band will be premiering one of my latest compositions for brass band, a Meditation entitled ‘Be Still’, at their pre-tour fundraising concert this Sunday at Moreland City Salvation Army at 3pm. The piece was written ...for the ATYB and their ministry on this upcoming tour, setting the well-known tunes of ‘Be Still for the Presence of the Lord’, ‘Be Still and Know that I am God’ and ‘Still’ around the passage of scripture from Exodus 14:13-14 - Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today... The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still...
