21.01.2022 Part 1: So we are a family of 3 (2 of 30s + 3yo, 4th is on the way ) who like to travel by all means and explore new places. And our friends who are adventurous as well joined us on our trip to Rockhampton on 02-05 October and stayed with us at the camping park for a couple of days (they had to leave a day earlier). We have a 7 seater car , 10 person tent (which was set up as a 3 bedroom apartment), 45L camping/portable fridge, mesh gazebo for kitchen handed ove...r by our friends and a couple of folding chairs. For those who're keen to learn more about what we took with us and why we chose it - please comment below and I'll share an extended post about it. As QLD-NSW borders still were closed for leisure travel in October we decided to travel up north and visit the Rockhampton area. The plan was to get to NRMA Capricorn Yeppoon Holiday Park on Friday before dark to set up the tent (and while staying there decide during the dinner where to go on the next day) and return home on Monday. Little did we know about planning activities for a weekend during school holidays Google maps showed the fastest route to be a total distance of 593 km between our place and NRMA *aka Big 4) Yeppoon Holiday Park (through Gympie, Biggenden, Gin Gin) and a 7 hrs drive with no stops which is not possible for human beings especially with a toddler onboard. And it forgot to mention that the Brooweena Woolooga Road is a sealed and an unsealed (read "gravel") road and it goes from near Brooweena to near Woolooga - 54km long with a 100k max speed but actually you'll be happy to do no more than 60k there and 40k when oncoming car appears. So tip number 1: update your route to go through Maryborough - it will add 23 km to the total distance and 25 min of driving but you'll get the smooth motorway conditions... 09.01.2022 If you're tired of the crowd on the most popular beaches in SE QLD head north towards Noosa and unwind and relax on one of the hidden gems - Sunrise Beach https://www.instagram.com/p/CH9HTX5BV5t/

07.01.2022 Part 2: Back to what we've done: we planned to do at least 2 long stops along the way so our toddler could play and run around and this would make the total travel time around 10 hrs. To be in Yeppoon by 4pm (check-in is after 2pm so there's no need to come earlier) we needed to start driving at 6am. We packed everything in the car on Thursday afternoon - we even put the fridge in the car, turned it on and transferred cold goods from the kitchen fridge in the morning. We ha...ve poured some coffee in our travel mugs and have put our LO still wearing his PJs in a car seat at 4:30am & drove to our friends' place to drive from there together. Our boy woke up and greeted them and fell asleep straight away for another 40 mins, yay . Our 1st brekkie stop was at the Lions Park @ Biggenden next to BP . There's a playground for kids with a slide, monkey bars, covered BBQs & WC amenities. Our LO had some time to play and climb and everyone else - to get some exercise after 2 hrs of sitting. After 9am we started to drive to Gladstone as there was the cheapest fuel pump on the route. We thought we'd have to stop before we arrive to the town but surprisingly the active boy fell asleep and woke up almost 3 hrs later when we stopped at the fuel station over there. At noon we parked at East Shores, had our lunch at one of the shaded BBQs areas, made a relaxing stroll along the riverfront and walked up William Golding Memorial Lookout . From the East Shores parking area it was less than 2 hrs away to the camping grounds and we did the final drive there without any stops and got there around 4:30pm, checked in and finally set up our camp. When we were having our dinner we thought to book a Glass Bottom Boat Cruise for the next morning but everything was booked out two weeks in advance. And a ferry option didn’t look attractive either... To be continued... #familytravel #Australia #Queensland #gladstone https://www.instagram.com/p/CJUPg9qhcxb/?igshid=dcj6ygopbvet
