14.01.2022 Tragically, four babies are dead as the result of gross under resourcing and understaffing at Blacktown Hospital causing as many as 20 obstetricians to tender their resignations. A recent Root Cause Analysis into the death of baby Nigella D’Souza found glaring inadequacies in the obstetrics department including poor observation of babies experiencing foetal distress, no dedicated theatre for obstetrics and gynaecology, delayed caesarean sections, access block, insufficient me...dical staff on shift and increased workload and no increase in clinical staff. NSW Minister for Health, Brad Hazzard has launched a review into obstetrics services in the area. If you or your baby have been the victim of birth trauma, contact The Law Office of Conrad Curry for a no obligation initial discussion. 12.01.2022 Sometimes it is necessary for the court to grant pseudonym orders to protect a litigant’s psychological wellbeing, where children are the subject of legal proceedings, or issues of fertility arise. Generally speaking, pseudonym orders will be granted where the plaintiff can demonstrate that they would otherwise be sufficiently deterred from bringing their legal claim. 11.01.2022 The medical lawyers here at The Law Office of Conrad Curry watched the ABC's 4 Corners' investigation about mental health treatment with concern. The investigation highlighted that mentally ill members of society and their families are not able to access effective treatment. There is a revolving door scenario where a person is treated for a few days and in some cases a few hours in a mental health facility before the person is discharged back into the community into the car...e of often elderly family members and a few days or hours later the whole scenario unfolds again. The investigation demonstrated that there are effective treatments and programs for mentally ill people, however tragically, many people are not able to access these programs unless they are detained in a forensic facility. The fact that a person has been detained in a forensic psychiatric facility means that the person has committed a serious crime which has tragic consequences for the victim and their family and ultimately the mentally ill person. The programs which are available in forensic facilities need to also be available in community mental health facilities so that people with serious mental illness can access effective treatment and avoid the tragic outcomes detailed in the ABC's 4 Corners' investigation. https://www.abc.net.au/4corners/please-don’t-judge/12579574

11.01.2022 We were not surprised to hear that The Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) has withdrawn its basic training accreditation from Maitland Hospital (effective 30 November 2020) citing ‘excessive hours, underpayment and poor supervision’ of junior doctors. Our experienced medical negligence lawyers have acted for numerous victims of injuries suffered as the result of alleged substandard care and treatment provided by rural and regional hospitals. If you, or a loved one,... have experienced poor treatment and care at the Maitland Hospital, please do not hesitate to contact us on (02) 4050 0330, to discuss your rights and potential remedies. https://bit.ly/3aiMEKV

06.01.2022 The health lawyers are dismayed to learn that Dr Keith Brennan was cleared to practice again as a GP by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) on 4 September 2020. https://bit.ly/3bKzzsN Dr Brennan had previously been found guilty of professional misconduct in relation to breaches of doctor/patient boundaries and was suspended/removed from the register and was unable to apply for review of the cancellation until after 14 July 2018 (please see the following link for... the decision https://bit.ly/2DOXcDP. 05.01.2022 The workers compensation team at The Law Office of Conrad Curry will be closely following the workers compensation death benefit claim made by the family of Dede Fredy, an Uber Eats worker who died on 27 September 2020 while delivering food when he was hit by a car. The problem is most food delivery riders are contractors and not considered to be employees under the NSW workers compensation legislation. We anticipate the claim will be fiercely defended by Icare given the claim is for a lump sum of $834,200 plus $149.30 a week for his dependent son. https://bit.ly/3n0t9KT

05.01.2022 We were deeply saddened to hear the tragic story of Ashleigh Simrajh on the news this week. At 23 years old, Ashleigh has just days left to live after her doctors failed to diagnose a melanoma on her leg. More than a year before her cancer diagnosis, her GP had dismissed the lump on her leg as a wart and referred her to a general surgeon, who advised Ashleigh that it was nothing serious. Neither doctor performed so much as a biopsy. Tragically, cases involving a misdiagnosis... or delayed diagnosis of cancer are something our medical negligence lawyers see all too often. If you or a loved one have suffered a serious illness that you think could have been avoided with proper care, one of our expert solicitors would be pleased to meet with you in a free initial consultation to discuss your options. 01.01.2022 We are pleased with the outcome of the recent NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) to refuse to reinstate the registration of a former medical practitioner previously found guilty of breaching patient doctor boundaries and taking advantage of vulnerable patients. Importantly NCAT found the practitioner displayed a lack of insight into his conduct by failing to address the cancellation of his registration in 2014, evidencing that he had not learned anything from the 3 early breaches. Former cosmetic doctor who traded Botox for sex barred from medical comeback https://bit.ly/2IIfLvw
