25.01.2022 We would be interested to here from people experienced or interested in organic no-till in Australia

25.01.2022 And then if it does rain . . .

24.01.2022 Interesting....wonder what the future in cropping will be?

24.01.2022 For those that are interested Col Harper is having Soil Health Expo on 18 March. Hope to see you there

23.01.2022 A good article on how and why we can, at times, be misled by scientific research.

23.01.2022 more sunflowers are coming https://www.magomadinefarms.com.au/sunflower/

21.01.2022 This is fully funded by AgSkilled, and they still have places in the Dubbo and Wellington courses if any one is interested

18.01.2022 [How long will the drought last?] by Professor Robert Baker Professor Robert Baker has kindly agreed to come to Coonamble on Wednesday 25 September to give a fr...ee talk "how long will the drought last?". It will be at the Coonamble Bowling Club from 5.30 -7.00 pm. Please call Anne 0268256212 to reserve a seat and please spread the word!! This is exciting research that can be of real benefit for us I believe. Over 90 people have booked into the talk at Barraba this Thursday. See more

17.01.2022 Interesting article!

17.01.2022 For those that are interested in this course

17.01.2022 I often thought that the condition of the soil may be linked to rainfall, this article confirms it. Exciting stuff!

16.01.2022 This is what we believe and try to practice

15.01.2022 More on cover crops.....

14.01.2022 Wow, harvesting looked like very hard work back in 1938, compared to todays air conditioned auto steered machines.....but very social.

14.01.2022 We can get caught up with labels that can give a false sense of security. One form of farming is better than another. The bottom line of any "agricultural practice" is to observe is it preserving and more importantly improving soil health? studies are now linking the health of our soil, ie microbe health with our own health. Let us all promote it even with our diversity of practices.

14.01.2022 Interesting article

13.01.2022 Is your soil alive? Interested in improving soil health to increase profitability by getting more biodiversity in the soil? Anne Williams from Magomadine farm ...will be presenting as part of the "Biodiversity for Profit conference" about practical ways to increase biodiversity in the soil as trialled on farm and in research. Tue 19th of June, 9:00am to 3:30pm. in Dubbo NSW

12.01.2022 How wet is it on your farm?

12.01.2022 Thank you to all members that just attended our AGM. Our new committee is Gavin Tom Chairperson, Phil Cosgrove and Robert Goodear Vice Chairs, Anne Williams Secretary, John Shepherd Treasurer, John Lawrie Promotion officer and Richard Chewings Project Organiser. Committee Geoff Chase, Grant Byrne, Phil Simmons, Ray Williams and Maree Goodear. Looking forward to a productive year ahead and to sharing great ideas in conservation farming!

12.01.2022 Sharing this with the NSW Soil Knowledge Network.

10.01.2022 If you live near Coonamble NSW and are interested in how to successfully grow food in you garden during a drought without pesticides and artificial fertilizers then you may be interested in this workshop. The first was a great success. The next one is on Sat 16 th March.

10.01.2022 I had been thinking this to be true for some years, now this researcher has actually found a link between no till and summer rain......

09.01.2022 This is fantastic news! The microwave weed killer prototype was seen at the CANFA field day a few years back and created a lot of interest then. It looks like it well soon be available for commercial release. A lot of croppers a looking for herbicide alternatives and this could be one option!

08.01.2022 My Wickgarden built in January finally started to work!! come and learn how to build these ones as well as lot more secrets of soil and plants. We have 2 more seats left for this Saturday! Please book from this link. https://mihowilliams.typeform.com/to/CnMu7c

08.01.2022 We are proud of how well received this workshop has been. If you think people in your community would like to learn how to grow your own beautiful nutrient dense food even during droughts or other climatic extremes and in small places then we can come to you.

08.01.2022 At the recent Biodiversity For Profit conference I briefly mentioned the link between crop productivity and rainfall. Here is more detail information! https://www.magomadinefarms.com.au/rain-and-productivity/

07.01.2022 Hopefully by now most members have finished planting and have had some nice rain recently. We are planning a week long bus trip to South Australia in September for the SANTA field days and to look at the precision seeding trials that we are involved with. Should be a great trip, really looking forward to it!

07.01.2022 Under the right conditions, sol bacteria can relocate. You may know this is happening when you can smell that nice earthy aroma when it has been dry and just before light rain. I love that smell!

07.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa7bK-N1Pps this is the link with Dr Graham Brodie speaking to Kim Goldsmith at the CANFA field day in 2014 about his microwave weed killer.

06.01.2022 an interesting comparison with the past

06.01.2022 Thought provoking....

05.01.2022 Another paddock inspection this morning. Linseed powering ahead. This should be a mass of white flowers come spring

05.01.2022 Electrons, soil, micro organisms, biochar, carbon are becoming linked closer together. The life in our soil is amazing.

03.01.2022 On 12 October Peter and Fay of Argyle Park Wellington had their clearing sale and are now off on new adventures since retiring from farming. The attached aerial photo is a great testament to their conservation agricultural techniques showing the only green patch in a dark brown landscape due to the current devastating drought. The top two paddocks on the right are their neighbours crops since cut for hay but the rest are their winter crops coming in nicely ready for harv...est. They should be congratulated on putting such a fine farm on the market in such dry times. I asked Pete what was his secret. He put it down to no-till cropping with stubble retention, strict fallow management, 100% cropping with the help of compost and using disc seeding equipment all with control traffic technology. We first met Peter and Fay on a Conservation Farming tour of South America in 2002. This tour introduced us to the cover crop technique and using disc instead of tyne seeders to plant our crops. Peter came home and built a crimp roller not long after and experimented with cover cropping. The photo of is of Peter and Fay standing in front of his crimp roller. These tours were organized by John and Julie Lawrie and we have since then have we had the pleasure of traveling together to many countries looking at different ways people farm and in some cases we bring back new and exciting innovations. Peter has been past chair of Conservation Agriculture and no-till Association (CANFA or as CWCFA as it was known in his day). In that role he promoted the use of conservation agriculture, focusing on promoting practices that help not just conserve our soil but more importantly improve it so that farmers can have a sustainable way of farming. Not everyone listened and Peter commented that showing people this aerial photo they say so you got rain then? No, he did not get any more rain and it did not just rain in his rectangular paddocks. Unfortunately CANFA is no longing running as such as an organization but the ex members are still get together and catch up and share new ideas. Good luck Peter and Fay in your new endeavours and congratulations again for showing us what very good conservation farmers can achieve even in the driest of times. Anne Williams See more
