22.01.2022 Reminder: National Feral Cat Management Survey Researchers from RMIT University are looking for volunteers to participate in a survey that asks questions ab...out feral cat management in Australia. The information collected will help to generate a better understanding of feral cat management across the nation, including how to make improvements. The online survey should take around 5 to 10 minutes to complete and will consist primarily of short, multiple-choice questions about feral cats and efforts taken to manage them. Participation is voluntary and, if you choose to participate, you will remain anonymous. Individual survey http://bit.ly/Cats2020ind Organisation survey http://bit.ly/Cats2020org : Hugh McGregor
21.01.2022 Yesterday, I joined Minister Sussan Ley MP who announced an $18 million package to protect Australia’s koalas. The package includes funding for a national prog...ram to monitor koala populations and support koala health, as well as funding for habitat restoration in NSW and Queensland. On-ground actions will include revegetation, weed control, fencing, managed grazing and tailored fire planning and implementation in bushfire-affected regions. This funding comes at a critical time for our koalas, following the devastating bushfires which killed and injured thousands. This funding will give us a much better picture on koala population numbers and trends. Through understanding where they are persisting, how they are using the remaining habitat and how they are responding to the fire impacted landscape, we can tailor on-ground efforts to ensure that action is focused where it is needed most. 08.01.2022 Check out this great case study by Grahame Webb, Chair of the IUCN Crocodile Specialist Group which documents the ups and downs of saltwater crocodiles in Australia’s Northern Territory and highlights the benefits generated from the introduction of a ranching programme.
04.01.2022 Ned Ryan-Schofield, a Masters student at the University of Adelaide, has been provided a grant to assist with his project aimed to determine the effectiveness of a poison delivery system that targets individual feral cats that repeatedly kill the same type of prey.
