25.01.2022 This morning's Nuclear Free Wa protest outside the annual meeting of Vimy Resources rocked! Unlike the company's plan to mine uranium at Mulga Rock, which is east of Kalgoorlie on Wongutha country... The protestors, who outnumbered the shareholders of Vimy Resources by five to one, handed out copies of the Mulga Rock report as shareholders arrived. Big thanks to everyone involved! [Video description: Protestors chant "Wanti uranium, leave it in the ground!" outside the ann...ual meeting of Vimy Resources in South Perth on Thursday. Mulga Rock is on Wongutha country - Wanti means stop in Wongutha language]. #renewablesnotradiation #dontnuketheclimate #banuraniummining #mulgarock #alwayswasalwayswillbe
24.01.2022 Today the McGowan Government released its Climate Policy for Western Australia. The policy fails to prevent further growth in WA’s carbon pollution, with no plan to cut growing emissions from WA’s biggest polluters - the gas industry. There are no interim targets and no clear timeline or road map for future initiatives. WA is the only state in Australia where emissions continue to rise from 2005 levels, and we are undermining the efforts made across the country to combat cl...imate change. 21.01.2022 Gnarabup beach and headland is a stunning stretch of coast near Margaret River - it's Margaret River's town beach. Last year, a property developer bought five lots of land on the Gnarabup headland and want to develop a resort and housing estate on the headland. Preserve Gnarabup are working hard to stop the development and protect the area. The development would impact on local fauna and flora, the fragile limestone cliffs in the area, and a registered Aboriginal heritage site. Visit their page and pledge to help stop the development!
18.01.2022 There was a time when we were encouraged to use gas, but with induction cooking and reverse cycle heating now far cheaper, cleaner, and healthier. Gas has got to go. Oh, and did we mention gas mining and processing is by far the biggest polluter in WA?
16.01.2022 The WA government is seeking to allocate water from the national heritage listed Matruwarra or Fitzroy River for irrigated agriculture. Gina Rinehart and the Harris Family (who have been fined for stealing water from the Murray Darling River system) own pastoral stations along the Fitzroy River and have plans for massive irrigated agriculture proposals afoot. The WA government released a draft paper this week for public comment on this plan.
16.01.2022 As the junior uranium hopeful Vimy Resources gathers for its annual meeting in Perth today a new examination of its controversial proposal near Kalgoorlie has confirmed fundamental flaws with the project. The Australia Institute found that the Mulga Rock uranium mine is "not economically or financially viable, is unlikely to deliver a net benefit to the WA community and presents potential environmental risks. It should not proceed". http://www.ccwa.org.au/mulga_rock_uranium... #dontnuketheclimate

07.01.2022 Folks, this is tonight, coming live from Wongatha country ~ Kalgoorlie ~ an important story from Anangu Spinifex women on the impacts of the nuclear industry!
07.01.2022 Yesterday, the McGowan Government released its long awaited Climate Policy. This policy sets no targets, and there is no clear roadmap for emissions reduction across the state. We're encouraging Western Australian's to call Premier Mark McGowan's office and let him know that the climate change policy is not good enough. You can call and leave a message now on (08) 6552 6888 or make a comment on the Premier’s Facebook page.
07.01.2022 Seagulls spreading antibiotic-resistant bacteria! CCWA Citizen Science researchers and Murdoch University have been involved in testing birdlife on Penguin island, and have found that the population of silver gulls may be picking up harmful bacteria from Rockingham’s landfill and passing it on to humans. 06.01.2022 Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO State of the Climate 2020 report shows Australia is experiencing climate change now.
04.01.2022 Here on Whadjuk Noongar country we are moving into the season of Birak (which runs roughly from December-January) As the rains start to ease up and the warmer weather sets in, many fledglings are venturing away from their nests, and reptiles are emerging from hibernation... It's also time for all our baby frogs to complete their transformation into adulthood! Hot morning easterlies are followed by cool afternoon sea breezes, signalling the start of the first summer. The...se clockwork wind patterns made it a traditional burning time for Noongar people, who would burn the country in mosaic patterns Burning the land would reduce fuel load in the undergrowth, and aid the seed germination for some plants. It would also increase the grazing pastures for some animals, including yonga (kangaroos), and make it easier for them to be hunted We here at CCWA love learning about the six Noongar seasons, which each represent the changes we see in the environment. The seasons can be long or short and are indicated by what is happening around us rather than by dates on a calendar. Learn more about the Noongar seasons on the Bureau of Meteorology's website here: http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/nyoongar/birak.shtml #birak #birakseason #noongarseasons #culturalburning #indigenouslandmanagement #alwayswasalwayswillbe
03.01.2022 An important new report by 350 Perth looking at the influence of the gas lobby on Western Australia This report comes at the same time that the WA Government is assessing new gas projects right across the State.
01.01.2022 Transition fuel myth busted! With two new wind farms coming online, renewable energy is replacing coal fast here in WA. Importantly this is happening WITHOUT increasing the use of gas. Those in government and in the gas industry that say we need to increase gas production as a transition to renewables are being proved dangerously wrong.
